Lindsey Pengelly Inspired Hair Tutorial

Tuesday, June 21, 2016
If you read this title and were like, "who?" then STOP READING AND CLICK HERE. Is she not the babe to end all babes? Srsly. I am obsessed with her hair! She has extensions (obviously). I am always on and off about extensions. Some days I really think I should get them to have thicker braids. Other days, I like being able to tell people that my hair is all mine.

I can't decide! I just don't like when people are like, "Oh your hair is gorgeous. Is it real?" And the person is like, "No I have extensions." And the other person is like, "Oh." Like it some how discredits how gorgeous their hair is because they have extensions? Or like people will be talking about a girl with pretty hair and say, "She has extensions, though." Like it's a bad thing?

Idk. Is it a bad thing?! I can't decide if I want to get them or not because I don't know what the general consensus is!

Ok anyway, so I saw Lindsey do this braid and decided to try it sans extensions and see if I could still get fairytale princess volume. I think I did ok?

I mean, it's obviously not as volumous as hers. But for everyday outings I like a little less dramatic volume.

Anyway, idk. Should I get extensions or nah? Like is it on the same page as people who get like size X boob implants? Or is it just like something a lot of people do?

ADVICE NEEDED.

Dyed my hurr black. What do you think?

A Happy List: 67

Monday, May 25, 2015

Getting two free "eats" at my job every day. / Getting a new outfit for our anniversary pictures and feeling very "Blair Waldorf" about it. / Going through all my old clothes and seriously getting rid of half the things I have. I am going to be putting them up for sale bidding style here. But I am not setting the bid at anything, so you can bid like $1 and get it haha. So, go follow that if you want to snag some deals. / When the Dawson's Creek theme song came on at my work. / My mom getting the house sprayed for bugs at last! / Having my first book club meeting with Riley. So much fun! If you want to come to the next one we will be reading The Four Agreements and meeting sometime in June. We'll post about it in the Friends IRL group and if you need the link to that let me know. / Doing more creative photography. / Chatting with cashiers. / When I walked by the front door and saw Trixie had somehow gotten out of the backyard, but instead of running around the neighborhood she just came to the front porch and took a nap. / Cucumber and hummus jammers.

Here are some funny things people said this week.

Me: "We have so much candy and I don't want any of it."
Jake: "Emmy, don't talk to our candy like that."

Me: "Gosh, I'm so obsessed with you right now for some reason."
Jake: "Oh, really? Wait... are you talking to me or Trixie?"

I wear bralettes around the house because it is SO DANG HOT EVERYWHERE. So, my mom's friend came to the door and I told my mom to get the door. She told me it was just someone picking her up and I would be fine/wouldn't need to go put a sweater on. Well, they were talking about getting a pen and my mom has one of those houses where you're trapped from your room unless you want to run across the entry way to get there. So, I hurried and threw on Jake's jacket and pretended to be casually looking for food in the pantry, since there was no where I could go without them seeing me. My mom walks in and is like, "Sorry, Emily's not quite dressed." HAHAHAHA.

Jake: "I owe you and your mom at least one day a week of cleaning." *proceeds to clean entire house* BEST HUSBAND

Jake: "I never know what Trixie likes and doesn't like to be honest."

My sister: "Did you see who was at the door?"
Me: "Ah! No! Don't open it!"
My sister: "Should I?"
Me: "No!"
My sister goes to open the door but quickly grabs a pen as a weapon before. It turned out it was someone she knew and we lol-ed that her instinct was to grab a pen haha!

Me: "What's better, the chocolate chip cookie or the dirt ball?"
Employee: "The dirtball."
Me: "Is it really? Are you just saying that because you have to?"
Employee: "Well, I work here. So, I think I would know."

Me: "Jake! I lost another pound!"
Jake: "Did you? We better get you some dessert so you can gain that back!"

Here are some internet things to make you happy! How cool is this iron fish? It's such a good idea! Also, I was telling Jake about this and he was so confused and said, "So, it's a live fish you breed?" haha. / Ok baby giraffe, you win at being the cutest sleeper. / Jake, are you ready to build one of these and travel the world with me? / How neato is this tape art? / OBSESSED WITH THIS BABY FOX.

hair bow tutorial

Thursday, November 20, 2014
Hello hello. Here's a tutorial of how I do my hair bow. It's super easy! Also I've never done one of these before and it was 100% the most awkward thing. But anyways, I hope it makes sense!

some life snippets

Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Are you tired of these half-real-photos-half-iPhone-photos posts yet? HA. I am, but it's just so hard to lug a huge camera around in addition to my school backpack. After this semester I'm going to challenge myself to PHOTOGRAPH and not IPHONE…GRAPH. Who knows, who knows. Start with the bad quality, end with the good, right?

Sometimes in the mornings when I'm getting ready, I look out the window and see a little shivering Trixie just sitting and watching me. It's equal parts sad and adorable. / Put apples on my toast and unintentionally made a Mr. Mustache. Aka, made myself soooo happy. / First day of work selfie. If you don't take a picture of your first day of work, does it even happen? Haha jk, I actually wanted to take a picture of my outfit, because I am finally at a job where I can wear 100% whatever I want and I am so excited. / Jake came home in an elf hat bearing gifts of mini Sprite can AND mini vanilla wafers. Reasons why I love my husband.

I talk about Jake's braids every day of my life it seems like, BUT LOOK AT THAT BRAID. You guys, he's so good! He braids my hair every night and I'm not even kidding, they're super intact when I wake up. I am a tossy-turning sleeper too. That boy, I'm tellin' ya. / Gotta appreciate snow covered mountains. Pretty sure it's one of the better things in life. / You also must appreciate the view of a sunset over Salt Lake Valley while you're driving over the point of the mountain. / You also must appreciate the beautiful-ness (??) that is Mormon temples. So many beautiful things, so little time!

Oh, you didn't request to see my most awkward photo?? Sorry about that. LOL. No, but this hair twist is like, ma new fave. It takes a second, but it has such a unique look. I'm obsessed. Here's the tutorial.

THE FIRST SNOWFALL. Or, as Jake would say, "it's snowing tiny babies". I skipped school this day and let me tell ya. Drinking my delicious hot chocolate, sitting in the front room studying and listening to Christmas jazz, there was no better time to look out the window and see SNOW. I love snow. So much. Also, winter in general. Every time I'm walking to school I just obsess over how much I love breathing in cold winter air. It's like a refreshing drink for your lungs.

Matte nail polish is the new best thing. I'm obsessed and am super glad to be done with busy school things so I can get back into the weekly nail obsession. I've had it lying around the house for a month or two now, and honestly forgot it existed. However, I don't think I can ever forget it exists again, considering how amazing it is. You must try it immediately!

After finishing my last test on Saturday, I booked it to the fabric store and made our stockings! Christmas is coming, you guys. IT IS COMING.

I know all caps bugs so many people, but for me it expresses excitement/passion, so I shall continue to use it.

That is life lately, my friends.

Slow mornings are good for
/ Hot chocolate (2 tbsp Ghirardelli cocoa per cup of whole milk, whisk together, heat for 2 minutes, you're welcome)
/ This slow jam (don't watch the music video, it will ruin the song haha)
/ Hair bows
/ Gorgeous morning light in the front room

tragic flaw

Friday, October 17, 2014

Am I the only one who is addicted to skipping school? Seriously once I skip 1 class, I skip every class. Don't even ask me how many times I've been to my Music 201 class, because you'll think I'm an idiot when I answer you. It's not even that I hate school, because I LOVE SCHOOL. I've only not done school for two summers... one during high school, and one when I graduated and couldn't go. (Trust me, I begged and cried for my mother to let me go to summer college in Spokane, Washington and she wouldn't let me. I don't think I was ever really upset with her, but that time I literally cried for so long and was super upset hahaha. #school4eve #teenangst). All my other summers have been filled with wonderful online classes or summer school, which I'm proud of because it means that I'm almost graduated and I'm meeting my goal of graduating early!

Now that we don't live 5 minutes from campus though, more often than I'd like to admit my mornings consist of new hairstyles, comfy/cute slippers, breakfast, and homework. It's not like I stay home and don't get anything done, ok? Ha jk, that doesn't make it better. Anyways, I just got done with like three weeks of tests, so maybe this coming week I'll be more motivated to go. But, alas.

I actually don't know what "alas" means. So.

But anyways. Here's some images, because on "The Old Blog" I used to post -ish like this and it really kept my creative juices a-flowin'. I feel like I'm turning into a science-robot? Darn you, Psychology. So, I'm trying to do more photography like I used to back in the good ole high school days. We'll see how long it lasts.

how to achieve the perfect messy bun

Saturday, September 13, 2014
I don't know about everyone else in the world, but my buns always looks horrible. They're either too tight, or like really loose? I just can't achieve the messy look! Ah! But then, the other day I had a break through. The secret is...

Don't wash your hair for five days. HA! The perfect grease and mess right there.

#selfie

Thursday, August 21, 2014

I am obsessed with Barefoot Blonde's braids. If you haven't looked at her blog, go check it out. Usually they don't turn out too well because #amateur, but these hippie braids were a proud moment in my day.

I'm obsessed with this chair! The last one had like, tons and tons of spiders in it and it was just gross. I saw this one on KSL for $20 and jumped! Colored furniture is one of my favorite things. It was pretty gross and ugly when we got it. We ripped off the ruffled bottom, painted the legs, and gave the whole thing a good scrub with some glass cleaner. It still wasn't that cute, but I feel like the blanket and pillow make it sooo much cuter. I'm excited to put it in our new apartment to add some color, since those white renter walls are the worst.

This is basically my morning every morning, sitting in the front room, drinking hot chocolate, and reading blogs/editing photos. I'm almost done editing the wedding I shot, so if any of you want to photo adventure, let me know!

i'm sick of my face

Thursday, March 6, 2014

Seriously. I'm way sick of my face. I'm way into taking photos right now, because I'm experimenting with new editing, except I don't have anything to take photos of. So, I end up just taking photos of myself before school while I'm waiting to leave. It's lame. It really is. I'm too obsessed with this new editing to stop though! So, if any of you would like photos... please email/comment/text/call/etc.!

Any suggestions of what else to photograph? All my photos are in the same setting. Maybe I"ll try one of those photo an hour things. It's just so hard to think of something to take a photo of every hour! Especially because lots of my hours are spent in school, and I'm not artistic enough to make my notebook and pen look different three times in a row.

ANYWAYS, IF YOU WOULD LIKE PHOTOS I WILL TAKE THEM FOR $50, SO LET ME KNOW.

It turns out I will be applying to grad school this December. Who even knew it was that close? I literally didn't. I for sure thought you had to be graduated before you applied, but apparently you can  apply before you graduate and just include your current classes? So, yeah. GRE here I come. Yay. (No, really. Yay. It will be so great.)

Well, we're off to a friend's reception! I love going to other people's weddings! The flowers, the food, the venue. It's just so fun. Benefits of living in Utah County, right?

iphone scenes

Monday, February 10, 2014
1/ Walking to school in the snow! I absolutely love it! This picture makes me miss my blue hair, though. I have been driving to school lately, because I am staying at my mother's house and it has been horrible! There are literally no parking spots. I had to drive around for 40 minutes this morning. I finally found some kid who was walking to his car and creepily followed him for about 3 minutes, haha.

2/ My sister had me dress up as Tinkerbelle for my niece's 3rd birthday party... only the costume she  had me wear was size large... in kid's... Needless to say I felt very awkward bending over to hand out pixie dust!!

1 & 2/ As much as I disliked walking home from school in the dark at the beginning of the semester, the sunsets were so beautiful! I've been missing it!

1/ I can't remember if I already posted pictures and/or talked about this, but I went to Lincoln Beach early in the morning, hoping to see steam rising off of the lake, and to my extreme enjoyment, the WHOLE place was foggy. SOOOO foggy. It was absolutely beautiful!

2/ The Jamba juice Jake got me when I was a beached whale (aka when the red witch came to visit). They can make a Butterfinger flavor, and it's so good. It tastes exactly like a Butterfinger.

1 & 2/ Am I the only one who searches for shapes in food? I got lucky and had a cute heart in my sparkling cider AND a face in my oil and vinegar! So fun! P.S. I promise I'm wearing shorts in that second photo!

1 & 2/ Hanging out with Trixie! I forgot how fun it is to have a dog. Now that I'm back (for a bit) she follows me everywhere! Today, I let her inside and was in the living room for a while. Then, I got up to get my slippers from the bathroom, and she got up and followed me. I went back, and then realized I had forgotten the phone charger in there too, so I got up like, one minute later to go get it and she got up and followed me again! Last night, I put her on the floor because she was bugging Jake, and she walked around for a minute and then jumped back up! Haha. It's nice though. She hated me when I left for college. When I came home on the weekends, she would just ignore me. It was heartbreaking! It's been fun being pals again while I'm babysitting her. Hopefully she won't hate me again when I leave.

1/ Dying my hair black. It really was a strange decision. It was like I debated it for a while, and then decided to stay blue. Then, one day I woke up, texted my sister, and was dying it hours later! We took this picture, because she used plastic bags as gloves... haha.

2/ Jazz game! I'm not too into sports, but I think I like basketball games. They're pretty fast paced. Jake asked me if I wanted ice cream and came back with this... it was practically as big as my head! Ah!

1/ I loved the way braids looked with my colored hair!

2/ Yeah, not so fun with black hair. I have been loving fishtails though. It's like, I haven't know how to do them for so long, now that I do I'm obsessed!

1 & 2/ Trying to study at my sister's house with her crazy dog! He is so cute. At first he was being totally crazy and trying to lick my face off, and then all of the sudden he got tired and slept on my lap for the rest of my study session! It was too cute.

1/ Applied and interviewed for my dream job! I'm super nervous, because I have to wait a week to hear back! I'm thinking I'm not going to get it though, that way I won't be sad if I don't get it. It's so stupid, but I always think like that.

2/ Finally trying a hamburger from In N' Out. It was pretty good! I can see why everyone is obsessed.

I think I am going to start posting iPhone pictures more. This blog is my diary/journal, and I take so many pictures on my iPhone, by not posting them I'm leaving out huge parts of life! Well, mainly more like little parts that make up a huge part? I don't know. One of these days I'll get a lens less than 35mm. But, until then, I apologize if you're one of those people who hates crappy quality photos on people's blogs. I promise it won't happen more than once every few weeks!

0 1 - 2 3 - 2 0 1 4

Thursday, January 23, 2014
So, today I dyed the blue/green out of my hair! I really loved it and am so glad I did it, but I just felt like it showed my horribly damaged split ends too much ;), plus I don't want damage my hair by constantly re-dying it and using heat products. Oh, and I really missed my daily steaming hot showers! Haha, but I absolutely LOVED my hair when it was blue. Like, soooo much. Once my hair gets to the length I want, I might dye the ends again. But, I really loved my hair when it was black too! It's a totally dumb thing, but I feel like I can wear more when my hair is black? I don't know, that's probably not even true, but, I do love my black hair! I'll have to post pictures of it soon.

These pictures were taken by my friend Mila! She texted me one day and asked if I wanted pictures of my hair or something, so of course I said yes! I'm glad I have these, because I can always remember my colored hair, haha. Also, this is probably as close to "fashion blogger" I'll ever get. I think I'm better behind the camera than in front of it ;)

Tomorrow we are going to the Midway ice castles! I'm so excited!
