A Day In New York

Saturday, February 4, 2017
I keep bringing my camera with me to school, but I never take photos for some reason? Well, I don't have much of a break anyway haha, but here are some pictures from a few weeks ago! I debated for DAYS over whether or not to go to orientation. Finally, Monday night, I was like, "Ok, I'll go I'll go." Tuesday morning we leave the house at 6:15 am and I catch the 7:00 train to New York.

Halfway through the train ride, I realize that ORIENTATION IS WEDNESDAY, NOT TUESDAY. I am an idiot haha. So, I just went and got my student ID, walked around, and got a treat.

I honestly think New York is the prettiest place. I don't like living there, but it's such a fun place to visit. It's nice being able to take a train in in the morning, but then be back in the suburbs for real life things haha.

I met up with my cute new friend Hallie and we went to Momfuku for treats. I got this crack pie and it was SO GOOD. We chatted in Starbuck's while I charged my phone, and then I headed home.

I heard that orientation wasn't too informative, so I'm not sad I missed it. Plus, it was nice to get out of the house. I swear to you, I am NOT meant to stay home haha. It's nice sometimes to have a sick day or something. But also, I get really scared that I won't be able to be a stay-at-home-mom. I just feel like I get really anxious and depressed if I don't have certain challenges and interactions. So, I think I might end up working part time or something. I don't know. I don't have to decide right now (not pregnant) but I just feel like people aren't very kind to moms who have nannies haha. I don't see what the shame is! Everyone has different personalities!

Also, I have decided that when I am pregnant, I am just going to wait and see when people notice. Like I am not going to announce it or anything lol. I am so excited because I hope it will throw people off hahahah.

Brooklyn Promenade + Juliana's Pizza

Tuesday, July 12, 2016
The other night we hopped over to Brooklyn to walk the promenade and get pizza with Kayla and her husband.  Neither of us had cute couple pictures in New York yet, so we took some pictures as well. I'm counting them as our anniversary pictures for this year, ha!

LOOK HOW PRETTY IT IS.

Can I just tell you how annoying it is when people like, just chill in front of landmarks?! Like take your picture and then get out of the way haha. There was a guy and a girl taking each other's pictures in front of this. I asked them if they wanted me to take a picture of them together and they said "No." hahahaha.

I'm legit starting a new photo series of Jake's blurred face in cool places haha.

We had to wait in line for this pizza, but it really was worth it! We got the margherita and loved it.

V cool street art we saw on the way home.

All in all, it was a good night!

Guys we found the best ice cream! Emack and Bolios. Add it to your list! Jake loves the red velvet and I love the funfetti in the fruit loop cone. The fruit loops are held on by marshmallow and it's SO GOOD!

Eating Waffles By Myself

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Sometimes I have mega-fails in New York. Like every time I get off the subway and have 0 sense of direction. #fail. Or basically every time I buy produce at Aldi. #fail.

Last week I had a few errands to run downtown. I found the library fine, but then it all went downhill. I went to Gideon's Drugs on 37th where I heard they sell Zoya nail polish. I wanted to get some more colors for my weekly nail series. So, I walk in and look everywhere in the store but all I can find is like a little 6x6 box by the register. I choose like 4 colors, bought them and then started walking out. THEN I SAW AN ENTIRE WALL OF VARIOUS ZOYA COLORS. Ugh I was so bummed haha. I really wanted a black and white, but after spending $33 on naili polish I felt like I should just leave lol.

I stopped at Nutella Bar for some pick-me-up food and it was basically Nutella heaven. I settled with the waffles which you all know I'm obsessed with if you've been watching my Snapchats (@emmy.jake). I had Nutella waffles like 4 days in a row the other week haha. (Also I left my bag of nail polish underneath the table and the woman next to me flagged me down before I lost them forever! New York really does have nice people.)

Anyway, then I realized I was pretty close to a Trader Joe's. I have been wanting to try their pretzel bagel, so I made the trek over there and THEY WERE OUT OF PRETZEL BAGELS.

So, basically New York kicked my butt. It's weird living here because it kicks your butt sometimes, but then other times it like cradles you like a baby and feeds you chocolate haha. Ah.

Treat House

Friday, June 24, 2016

She was going crazy hahaha. So Jake was just standing in the middle of the sidewalk and not letting her sniff around as punishment lol. I don't think she really understood what was going on because she was crazy the whole time.

Ok let's talk about Treat House. Yes, that is a table filled with rice krispies. Yes, those rice krispie treats are adorable. BUT YOU NEED TO GET THE COOKIE DOUGH ICE CREAM RICE KRISPIE TREAT BAR... THING.

I was told to get the ice cream bar instead of the rice krispie treats, but I am the worst and didn't listen. So we made our way back there a few days later to try the real deal haha. I am not disappointed.

Also, the guy who works there is SO FUNNY. We mentioned how we were new to the area and he started telling us about New Yorkers. He was saying how they are the strangest people you will ever meet and how we should pray for them hahahaha. I can't say I disagree! The attitude of some people here is crazy. The sass knows no boundaries.

Weekend Happenings!

Wednesday, June 22, 2016
Goodmorning everybody! The past weekend we both had to work on Saturday which sucked, so we didn't get to explore as much as we usually do.

On Friday night we got some good news, so to celebrate we went to Blockheads! We were dying because we were sitting inside and it was SO LOUD. Like, we thought that by sitting inside it would be quieter than on the street but noooo. If you follow me on Snapchat (@emmy_jake) then you know what I'm talking about!

The chips and salsa was so good! I got a tofu taco and a butternut squash taco. Next time I would just stick with the tofu. The tortilla it was served on was so good too. A+ A+ A+. Also Jake said his steak quesadilla was the best he has ever had haha.

Can you even handle this sock monkey wall?! #amazing

I obviously can't handle not getting dessert, so we tried the concrete at Shake Shack. I'm not the biggest ice cream person, so I probably wouldn't get it again.

Saturday we both had to work (boo) but I did get some good news after leaving work so naturally we had to celebrate! We went to EJ's Luncheonette again and this time I got the crunchy french toast which was DELICIOUS. Jake got another burger and loved it.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to share all this good news with you guys in a few weeks, but needless to say we have some super exciting changes coming up!

Cupcake ATM

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you, the cupcake ATM. For sure one of the best creations.

On Sunday we walked the pup down to the ATM and got a cupcake. There is even a little camera that shows your cupcake being picked! Jake has been convinced that there is just an employee in there who goes and gets the cupcake after you order it, but I'm not convinced haha.

This was the salted caramel and it was SO GOOD. I would definitely recommend.

Crif Dogs!

Tuesday, June 14, 2016

We finally made our way down to Crif Dogs in East Village! Hot dogs? A+. Lighting? F. I had to turn these photos black and white because the white balance was so weird.

Anyway! This is a good cheap eats! We decided it's like a hole in the wall the got famous, if that makes sense. I would literally go here weekly if we lived closer, though. I always get these fancy hot dogs with like, tons of stuff on them. Then, I scrape everything off after one bite and do ketchup and mustard? I'm an idiot.

Oh, and yes, they had veggie dogs. Still vegetarian haha. #always

Chelsea Market!

Thursday, June 9, 2016
Good afternoon everybody! These pictures are from the other day at Chelsea Market. Definitely somewhere you need to add to your list.

I'll talk more about this later, but I just wanted it to be the thumbnail for this post becaues HOW AMAZING.

Ok so this artist is amazing. I was telling Jake that if we had a lot of money I would have bought like three pieces right then and there. I don't know if I've seen much art that screams my name, but man do these!

How cute are these lights? Don't worry, there were like 1,000 other people taking pictures in front of me who wouldn't move. So NBD. If you look at this from like a straight on angle it's much more magnificient, but you get the idea.

I don't know if I talk about my love of street art much on here but now you know. I LOVE STREET ART. We were wandering around Chelsea trying to find a donut place (cause national donut day, duh) and happened upon this piece by Invader!! #winning

This is the view from the High Line! Seriously soooo pretty. I know a lot of people think cities are meh, but I honestly think they are the most beautiful thing. It's crazy to think that like, people made this? Ha maybe that sounds dumb but seriously it's such a cool thing to think of like, how far humans have come!

LIKE SPEAKING OF AMAZING HUMANS. This is a piece (yes, it's art) by Tony Matelli located at the High Line. His stuff is UNREAL! This particular sculpture is called "Sleepwalker" and it looks soooo realistic. I took a picture with it (see here) and I thought that the closer I got the more I would see like, paint strokes or something. But nope! Realistic up close as well. It's there until March 2017 I believe, so add it to your list if you're visiting soon!

We got donuts from Donut Pub and would 100% recommend.

So, Jake went to BYU for his undergrad. In case you didn't know, at BYU you can't have long hair (or a beard). So basically I have been waiting THREE YEARS for Jake to be able to grow his hair out. It's finally getting long and I am obssed with the "tucked behind the ear" look. <3

Oh, and also for the record Jake wants long hair as well. I asked him this: "If you were on an island all by yourself, what hairstyle would you choose?" His answer was: "Like maybe Jesus hair? Like to my shoulders?" HAHAHA.

LIKE HUMANS CREATED THIS!

Anyway. I would highly recommend spending a day in Chelsea going to Chelsea Market for food (there are tons of places in there) and then wandering around the art scenes.

I forgot how much I love art! I don't know how many of you have been reading since the good ole angsty high school days, but I used to be hella artistic. (See here, here, here, here, here, andddd here.) Oh, and you can't judge me for any of those posts because I was like literally 15.

Anyway, It's been nice to be back in an environment that promotes that and makes it easy to find! I'm currently working on a canvas for our bathroom that will be pretty funny. I'm excited for all of you to see it!

(After reading all those old posts I'm wondering if I do too many exclamation points lol.)
