So I've decided that Velour is the coolest venue. I've also decided that it's totally, 100% geared towards folk/indie/alternative/hipster musicians. Can you picture a scremo band performing there? Because I can not.

We waited in a forever long line and there were all these teenagers behind us being really annoying. Sometimes I don't feel like an adult, but then whenever I am around actual teenagers I'm like, "Ah. Yes... I am 21." I apologize to all the people I annoyed when I was a teenager! I guess it's just a rite of passage or something to be annoying. 

Anyway, Joshua James is amazing and you need to discover him if you haven't already. He looks exactly like Jared Leto, also. Like, he came into Starbuck's one time when I was working there and I literally thought Jared Leto was in our store. I asked my co-worker if she knew who Jared Leto was and if that was him, and she was like, "Oh! His name starts with a J, but I don't remember it. And I think he actually is a musician!" So, I was convinced but alas. Not Jared Leto. Just a doppleganger. I wonder if we all have dopplegangers like they do in Vampire Diaries. Natalie is my apparent doppleganger. People would comment allllllll the time on it when I was in high school. "Are you Natalie's little sister?" Or, "Hi, Natalie! Wait..."

I guess I'm mainly just procrastinating my school work. But guess what? Here's what tests I have left until graduation:

- exercise science final (1)

- social work midterm and final (2) 

- american heritage midterm and final (2)

LIKE 5 TESTS LEFT. I'm so close, you guys! Freedom is in view!! I have been making a list of all the things I want to do once I graduate and let me tell ya, it is going to be a v productive week or so. I'm just going to be cleaning, organizing, baking, and reading. The life!!

weekend scenes

People come through Starbuck's with their little pups all the time, so I decided to take Trixie with me on some morning adventures to the Pharmacy. I thought she would be all into the convertible vibes and stick her head out the window or something, but she was just a proper little chester the whole time like in the first picture haha. We went to Beans and Brews because hello, best hot chocolate and they gave her a little puppy treat! Cutest thing, cutest thing. 

We decided to put Trixie in Jake's donut pillow, and she actually liked it haha. She just laid there all content. Then on Saturday, we stopped by Sodalicious before the Andrew McMahon and I (being used to McDonald's large size) ordered a large huckleberry diet pepsi, and this is how big it was! I think it was like 44 ounces or something. Soooo much soda.

I forever hate that you can't bring DSLRs into concerts. But Andrew McMahon really was something else. We went to his concert at the same venue last year the same day we got engaged. It was so awesome because along with some of his new stuff, he also plays A TON of his old Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate stuff. It's super amazing because his venues are smaller, but you still get all the good old stuff. So, basically all I'm saying is you should go if you like Jack's Mannequin or Something Corporate.

Sunday consisted of more birthday celebrations for the bacon. (My niece put the candles in lol.)

We ended Sunday with a little scooter ride to Wal-Mart to get a soda from the machine, but true to Wal-Mart form all three of the vending machines were either sold out or jammed. So, we adventured for a little bit and found this amazing view in a random neighborhood not too far from our house. Score!

A great, productive weekend all in all!

Currently taking a break from Psychological Testing. Sometimes it's just too much, ya know? I did pretty good on my test yesterday, so I'm feelin' good. But, at the same time if I would have bombed it I would have had wayyyyy more motivation to study today than I actually do. Ha! Anyways, it turns out I have more time to study than I accounted for in my Finals Week Plans, so I thought I'd post some pictures from our outings lately!

This first picture is accidentally the only picture I took at Les Miserables! But, it was an awesome performance. Jean Valjean and Javert were seriously so good! Plus Jake had to wear his glasses so it was a cute plus to the night ;)

So, I'm forever complaining about the zoom length of my 35mm, because I can't flip it around and take pictures. However, while cleaning out my desk, I found my old fisheye attachment! It is less fisheye than most, so it works pretty well for taking pictures of ourselves without having to ask someone else to!

And finally the concert! These pictures are courtesy of my friend, Alena. My small arms couldn't get any good shots. We were in the third row, but people started going crazy 4 or 5 songs in, and I'm pretty small so I was getting thrown all over the place haha. So, we escaped to the back and stood on a cement block and watched the rest. It was sooo good. I'm literally so happy I saw them at Kilby Court (a garage made into a venue) all those years ago. I remember standing like two feet away from Josh and watching them play an amazing show! Here they are, all these years later (ok, like five) and they are doing sold out shows and touring everywhere. I feel like a proud mom, haha.

It was a great night! More bands need to come to Utah! Agreed? My favorite is when they come to 21+ venues... not. Haha. Literally, that's the only reason I'm excited to turn 21. No concerts will be off limits to me anymore!

It’s actually not even a big deal. Anything, I mean. Also, some people just fade and there’s nothing you can do about it. 

Probably life is just happening like it always does and everyday I’m discovering more and more awkward things such as when the elevator door shut on me, or when no one talked during lunch. But, for every awkward thing there is something that goes smoothly, such as getting off work early, or finding wheat tortillas in the fridge. 

After 1 hour of sleep Friday night, 12 hours Saturday night, and 2 hours Sunday night, I’m starting to think I’m terrible at prioritizing.

It happens sometimes.

Today’s 5:

-mountains when it snows

-when old men wink at me

-Trixie’s sad eyes

-when JC says, “bih”

-the cold spot in the bottom right corner of my bed

there is a light that never goes out. literally.

I just want to get out of here you guys. Like, when I think about really hard, it's actually really great here. I mean, there are shows every weekend and open mic nights and the perfect cinema for movie hopping. There's the international films every night and there's decent cocoa on my walk to class. It's cooling down too, before we know it winter will be here and I will be able to bring out the Spirit Hood. Ask me if I'm excited.

It just doesn't fit, though. Neither does Seattle. Chicago does right now in my head, which is stupid because I've never been there. What is this feeling? Like, maybe it's just this weird transition stage. Everything is actually wonderful, there's just this underlying nagging feeling that I'm not where I'm supposed to be. Is that normal?

I met a cool boy. He's nice and refrigerates candy bars. I think he's a fitting person to my life. Which is nice, because all of my other friends are failing miserably right now. Mean people... I just don't get them.

Anyways, I swear I will take some more interesting photos soon. I plan on exploring the area. Pear haps a hike? Or maybe a bay walk? Or a midnight picnic with myself because there is no one to have one with?

Yes to all of the above. Yay for solitude.

Local Band Love

Good ole Muse.

They have new artwork. Go check it. I hope they leave Trevor Christensen up forever, his work definitely completes that wall. 

Open mic night was a success. There are more photos, but this post is dedicated entirely to Streets Ahead. We were front row at their first performance. Yayyyyyy. Taylor is adorable, is she not? She is the classy lady with the glasses. We love her. No questions asked. Oh, and then there's Chandler. He's secretly a 40 year old man trapped in a teenager's body. No one knows where he came from. He pretty much just popped up in life one day and was like, "Hey, I'm super cool and have awesome facial features. Oh, and I dress well". Then we welcomed him into our clan where we cradle him like mothers cradle children.

I'm sorry. I don't know where that came from. No cradling occurs. Well, except for the night we tried to go to that restaurant where you pay what you think your meal is worth. There was like, a cuddle fest on the bean bag. I feel like I'm just word vomiting all up in here. I'm done.

ANYWAYS. I don't know Mark or Lisa, but Mark gave me a hug and Lisa has an angelic voice. AKA they are cool. So, yeah. That's the basis of Streets Ahead. You can like them on Facebook here.
