A Stroll Through Central Park

Thursday, May 12, 2016
It finally stopped raining! Well, long enough for us to walk to dinner haha. We lived here for like a week and a half before even stepping food in Central Park. #crime.

Anyway, it turns out that going from the Upper East Side to the Upper West Side takes just as long on a train as it does to walk. So, we took a little stroll to dinner through Central Park.
How cute is this house? Or are they called something else here? Townhome? Condo?

Dress c/o Tobi

I've decided that probably what makes New York long-term livable is Central Park. Like I literally plan on going daily once the weather clears up. It's so quiet and beautiful with all those tall trees! (I am a tree person. Obsessed with tall trees.)

For dinner we decided to try Hummus Place. I can't remember which blogger recommend it, but I am almost positive it did come recommended from a bloggger lol. Like most places on my list. I was a little apprehensive afer we got there and looked at the menu, but we had a $25 groupon so hey!

Turns out it was delicious! It was all vegetarian which I know sounds unappealing haha, but it was good. We got the falafel sandwich, the veggie patties, hummus, and mango nectar. If you go there you have to get the mango nectar! It was seriously so good. My favorite was probably the hummus. It was so smooth! And paired with warm pita bread mmmmm.

After factoring in the tip we realize we spent about $35 on dinner (a little out of our budget) but oh well lol. It was worth it. If you are in New York and wanting a healthier/middle eastern dinner, then go here!

It got pretty windy on our way home, so we ended up catching a bus! I don't know why more people don't talk about the buses here. Sure they aren't as fast as the subway, but I love love love being able to see the city during the ride! My preferred method of getting places is walking, then buses, then the subway. Well, obviously if I had unlimited money I would take an Uber, but alas. ;)

My Pie, My Pie, Talkin' Bout My Pieeeeee

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

That's the official My Pie song. You have to sing it every time you go there.

But guys this is the actual best pizza in New York. You can feed 2 people for like $10. So far we've tried and loved: buffalo mozzarella, mozarella cheese, and pepperoni. I tried the mushroom and truffle oil but I'm not a big fan of mushrooms.

Anyway, go here. Bye.

The Tiniest Hot Chocolate

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Look at this hot chocolate hahaha. It is literally the smallest baby. In other news, where is everyone's favorite hot chocolate in New York? I've yet to find on I like better than Beans and Brews!

A Happy List: 117

Monday, May 9, 2016

We tried Quip toothbrushes! They send you a new toothbrush head every 3 months. The brushes vibrate and notify you every 30 seconds so you know you are brushing your teeth for a full 2 minutes. Here's the link if you want to check it out.
Before we had clothes storage, we had this. We called it, "the marketplace".
On the news they switch to someone else and there is that awkward silence before they start talking.
Being really nice to people who are cold and seeing their disposition change and become nicer.
When I had cramps and Jake read my mind and did everything I would have asked him to do.
I posted this on Instagram and people actually commented in all caps hahahaha.
Figuring out how to make bathing comfortable! Loving this bubble bath.
Kids in prep school uniforms. Seriously the cutest thing.
The discount I get at Anthropologie/Urban Outfitters.
When my mom sends me Snapchats of Trixie.
When a guy helped us get tickets for the bus.
Flying Tiger! Seriously the cutest store!

I got these curtain hooks from Amazon. Jake opened the package and was like, "Is it just me... or do these look like... scratched?!"

Jake never remembers what a duvet is lol. I have literally explained duvets and duvets covers on 3 separate occasions and he is still confused. We got our duvet/white part but hadn't received the cover yet. I said, "I'm so excited to get the cover for this!! It's going to be so cute!" Jake said, "Oh... something goes over this?"

Looking at dinner prices. Jake: "Wait. It's already happening. We're in New York and think $10 is cheap."

Jake: "I wonder what it's like to be a big reader. There are so. many. books!!!"

Sometimes we pronounce things with ee. Like instead of chip it would be cheep. (Pronounced like "cheap".)
Jake: "May I have a cheep?"
Me: "You may, but it will cost you a keess. (kiss)"
Jake: *eats exactly one chip* "May I have another cheep for another keess?"

Jake: "I'm definitely getting the carbonera. Not a question now, not a question then, not a question inbetween."

Remember how I was saying we randomly pretend to die? K well we both died at the same time, then both said "Simultaneous death!"and then we looked at each in awe at how in sync we were. And then Jake died again because crazy in sync lol!

Jake: "Gonna use the boy's room."

Me telling my mom concerns about walking in scary areas. I was telling her I have to choose between walking by construction sites or by projects. She said, "Walk by the construction workers because if they do anything then they can track them down and kill them, or whatever they do."

When I told my mom I was ordering my groceries online: "Who are you?!!?!"

When I told my mom she gets a discount at Anthropologie: "Oh. My. Gosh. How do we do that?! Isn't there really nice stuff there?!"

-

Guys, I've been trying to do a better job at keep track of the things people say! I am trying hard to make this my journal again, but it's hard with it being such a public platform haha. I'll get there.

Reunited With My One True Love

Saturday, May 7, 2016
The pretzel croissant from City Bakery, you guys. My favorite food thing I have ever eaten in New York City. No exaggerating. This is real, true love. If you are in New York City, and you don't get a pretzel croissant? I will be mad probably. So don't do it.

WE ARE FAMOUS!

Me getting a job at Anthropologie haha.

The view! The view!!!!! I got to look at various dogs all dinner. What else could you possible ask for.

There is a place we walked by the other day called EJ's Luncheonette! Haha naturally we had to go because it was meant for us. Jake was like, obsessed with his food. I think I want to try their breakfast. They have some french toast that sounds pretty delish.

A Guy Outside Our Window In The Middle Of The Night?!

Thursday, May 5, 2016
Guys this is a real story. Sorry to do a text only post but actually not really because this is IMPORTANT. Also, I do what I want.

So, on Tuesday night I woke up to all this wind. If you don't know me, then just know that I HATE wind. Like literally tornados are my worst nightmare. Ok, so there was this really, really strong wind outside and it woke me up. I thought it was just stormy, because it's been pretty rainy in the city this week.

But then I saw these flashes of light? Like, you know when someone is in a tent with a flash light and you can see their shadow while you are standing outside the tent? That's what I was seeing on my curtains.

Our apartment is on the second floor. Outside our windows is a roof of a one story building, and then on the other side is another tall building. Does that make sense? So think like a one story building sandwiched in between two tall buildings.

So, I got up and peaked outside and saw A GUY WITH A FLASH LIGHT WALKING AROUND. He was shining his light in my direction so I freaked out and jumped back into bed. I woke Jake up and told him there was a guy outside our window blowing wind with a flashlight. I think he was super confused. He just put his arm around me and said, "It's alright". MEN.

So, basically from the hours of 2:00-4:00 I was awake in terror listening to some guy on the roof power blow various areas. I think he had finished our windows by the time I was awake, because from then on the blowing sounded further away.

BUT STILL. Isn't that the weirdest thing? Like literally what was he doing? I need to know. Someone thought he was doing graffiti, but there isn't any up there. My mom thought he was repairing something, but why at 2:00 am??

Theories are welcome, because I am still very paranoid about someone being out there in the middle out the night.

Becoming An Alien Via Bath Bomb

There isn't any food in this post. Are you surprised?

K honestly how do my eyebrows look. I tried this gel from Benefit Cosmetics the other day and I thought they looked better than they usually do, but I need honest internet opinions. I'm trying to get bolder eyebrows without sharpie-ing them in lol.

I usually don't like bathing, but for some reason I have loved it ever since we moved here? I think maybe it's all the walking and the spare time that I have. Or maybe the fact that I can have my laptop on top of the toilet and watch a show haha.

BUT GUYS THIS BATH BOMB IS AMAZING. It always takes me so long to decide which one to get, but I love space and aliens so naturally I got the intergalactic!

The foam it made was so pretty. Have you ever tried to take a picture of your bath without getting nude limbs in it? Pretty difficult.

You can't see it super well, but it made the water all sparkly. If you hate glitter, then just make sure to rinse of after your bath and you'll be fine. I loved the extra sparkle because I felt like Edward Cullen/an alien princess. #goalz

I love Lush but there are always so many thing in there! I don't know what half of them do! So if you have any favorites please let me know!

How We Wore It! At Last!

Wednesday, May 4, 2016
I have been wanting to do the How We Wore It challenge/link up/whatever for so long haha. Today is the day! I didn't realize how awkward it would be to take photos of my actual outfit. I don't know how you fashion bloggers do it. If you have any posing tips, I am all ears.

Dress - hand me down from my amazing sister. Tights - Ebay forever ago. Shoes - I actually have a link for these (here) because I bought them today! Very obsessed so far. Oh, and I bought them very on sale ;)

This was the outfit inspiration picture from Elevate Everyday! It's funny because before I saw this picture, we went to H&M and I saw that skirt and was like, "I am going to come back and buy this with the gift card my mom gave me for Christmas!" And then I opened the email and bam. There it was haha.

Here are the other lovely ladies participating in this month's How We Wore It! Check them out!

P.S.

While we were walking down this street I was like, "Jake!! Look how pretty it is!" Then I realized that's probably how people feel about the mountains in Utah! It's funny how different people have different ideas of what they think is pretty. Probably so many people are snickering about how gross or ugly New York is but I really do think all the city views are gorgeous! Still can't believe we're living here haha.

Hi This Is The Best Cookie.

Tuesday, May 3, 2016
I've decided to only post about things I would recommend! For a while, I played with the idea of posting what we didn't like, but I just feel like that is for sure going to come back and bite me in the butt somehow haha. So, only posts about what we do recommend from now on!

So!!! Add the black and white cookie from Pick A Bagel to your list! I think it's like $2.95. It's super soft and the icing is chocolate and vanilla. SO GOOD.

A Happy List: 116

Monday, May 2, 2016
Buying these curtains in the spur of the moment and ending up obsessed with the way they look!
This brow gel is literally amazing and prevents the dreaded "sharpie eyebrows" lol.
Finally getting copper fairy lights! They 100% transform a room! (Link here.)
Finding out about VIA, an Uber-type car service that is only $3.95 from 11-3!
Being able to get groceries delivered for free! Basically my dream come true.
Being able to get things same day delivery through Amazon.
All the cute elderly people in our neighborhood. <3
All the white noise in our apartment.
Putting together IKEA furniture.
Getting 2 jobs. I'll be busy!

- - - - -

Ok so we had just barely moved into our apartment. We just got back from the store with essentials and Jake was like, "What are we going to put above the toilet? Maybe a picture or something?"

Me: "Ah, can you please fix that fan! That noise is the worst."
Jake: "It's the ground it's on... it's uneven... I know exactly what to do!!!!!!"

Jake: (referring to Clementine's) "Are these called 'neham' in English or is that just Japanese?"

Jake: "I want to start using butter more."

Jake: "Our vacuum is coming tonight! It's gonna be dope! It's gonna pick up all your hurrrrrs."

Me: "Ugh, you brought your chromecast?"
Jake: "Em, my chromecast goes where I go."

Jake: *referring to my digital camera's case* "Where is his backpack?"

Me: "I'm mad at you."
Jake: "I think you're just trying to get a back rub."
It was true hahahaha.

Jake and I do this thing where we "die". Like basically at random times in a conversation we will just close our eyes like we are dead haha.
Me: "Eyebrows on fleek!"
Jake: "What does that mean? On fleek?"
Me: *died*
Jake: "Dead. Dead cause fashion or blogger term that I don't know about."

Jake was vacuuming and walked in on me in the bathroom hahaha. It was the first time this has ever happened and I couldn't stop laughing.

Grace's!

Sunday, May 1, 2016

You know how everyone talks about Dough donuts? Well they sell them at this cafe on the Upper East Side! Both were just as good as you would expect. Mine was coconut something and Jake's was maple something.

We still haven't tried actual Dough because who has time for that hahaha, but when we do I'll let you know how they measure up.
