The Time I Went To A Concert 2 Days After My Entire Chest Was Sliced Open

Friday, August 25, 2017
HELLO EVERYONE. I AM ALIVE AND WELL. So, here's what happened.

November of last year I got a breast reduction (read about that here). There were some things my plastic surgeon wanted to fix but I was like, they are just boobs?? And decided not to.

Then, over the summer I started thinking about how I would be moving and not have the chance to fix them if I wanted to. Also my surgeon offered to do it for free (because I picked the best surgeon in the world) so I figured what the heck, why not! And decided to get the surgery. I have like a two week break (actually, one week because my next internship has trainings.... yayayyyyy) before school and internship start up again, so this was the only time I could do it.

HOWEVER this was the same week as the John Butler Trio tickets I got J for his birthday. He was like, "We don't have to go!" And I was like, "I'll be fine!"

So actually my incisions sting a lot. Sometimes they are fine, mostly when I am not moving. But when I am moving they sting. BUT GUYS, IT'S JOHN BUTLER TRIO.

So I went and literally cradled my boobs the whole time lol. Applying a lot of pressure to the bottom helps the incisions not hurt, so I basically looked like some jerk the whole concert who refused to unfold their arms to clap lol.

Also I am aware I look like a ghost in this photo. You may think it's because of the surgery I got earlier, but it's actually just because I am really white lol.

But the concert was really good! There were a lot of granola bars (granola people... hippies...) there and it made me hype af to move to Portland or Seattle. I feel like we've had 9 months left on the east coast for months? Like I remember my mom being here in May and telling her we had 9 months left?? So I'm like WHEN WILL THESE 9 MONTHS START SHORTENING! Lol.

Anyway, I am back at home now and doing fine! This recovery should be easier than my last, but gosh dang I just wish the stinging would stop because it puts me in the WORST mood!! It's like, random shooting pains too. I'll write more about everything on Tuesday. So be forewarned.

P.S. I just had the WORST experience at Subway! I swear the kid making my sandwich was high and had to ask me like three times what I wanted on it. Then, I ordered a cookie and they didn't give it to me, but charged me for it anyway :( I am bummed because this is the same Subway that made the BEST sandwich I have ever had in my life. (And I eat a lot of Subway so that's saying something!!!) Anyway, I will be going back for the cookie because I am that type of person.

A Happy List: 166

Monday, August 21, 2017

1/ Teaching J a new braid. This one is fancy and I can wear it to work/school, so I'm v excited.

2/ Pretty much every recipe I made this past week was sooooo so good. I have accumulated a ton of good recipes (mostly vegetarian) and am thinking of posting all of them for anyone wanting to try eating veg. They are all pretty fast and easy, cause I'm no cook! But they are fancier than like, macaroni and cheese or ramen noodles lol.

3/ Finished my internship and am now on a break with nothing to do but watch T.V. and do arts! What's good on Netflix and Hulu right now? Oh, and Amazon Prime T.V.?

4/ Tucker has been really tired lately and I'm LOVING IT. He's giving us a glimpse of what life will be like when he's not a puppy anymore and it is SWEET.

5/ Finding 6 books at Good Will for $10. Also one of them is those Child Craft books, which are a total childhood memory for me. Crazy that they were there. I think I am going to try to collect them all!

6/ Booked a trip to Vermont and I'm so excited! We're trying to squeeze all the quintessential New England stuff in during our last 9 months (!!!!) here. A trip to Vermont in the fall is like, the most quintessential New England thing I could imagine lol.

7/ We FINALLY found a girl name we both like. No, I'm not pregnant. No, we're not planning to have babies any time soon. I just weirdly need to have my children's names planned out, idk why.

8/ Started an art shop! All proceeds will go towards my tuition lol. Shop your heart away.

9/ We did a little bbq with friends and it was so fun! I ate strawberry rhubarb pie for the first time and it was so classic. The amount of times I have read and heard about strawberry rhubarb pie is like, a lot. I was excited to finally try it and LET ME TELL YOU. It was so good. When we left we took two more pieces lol.

10/ Also, at that bbq one of our friends was telling us about this podcast where people believe the world is flat and interview people and ask them dumb questions. It sounded so funny. I guess they have this theory that the sun is cold, because space is cold. And it just made me really grateful for conspiracy theories and people who are super into them lol. I am obsessed with them.

Cool people on social media:
  • My friend started YouTubing!! I am OBSESSED with her hair. I knew her when it was brown and I am seriously loving how it is now. It makes me want to do the same. Idk, I might try to photoshop it first to see how it would look lol.
  • In the world of influencers, this guy is a great relief! I showed it to J and it made him lol.
  • This girl's astrology makeup is on point. Arrow left to see them all.
  • Lovin' this Instagram account.
  • Always on the hunt for Portland Instagrams and am loving this one.
Recipes I tried and loved (all are vegetarian but you could add meat):
  • These sandwiches. Super simple, super yummy.
  • I think I've shared these before, but I still make them mummies even though it isn't halloween yet lol. And yes, they still are delicious.
  • I'm pretty sure I already shared this recipe, but I made these again because they are SO. DARN. GOOD. If you try none of these, TRY THIS ONE.
Homes I'm loving. (I am obsessed with the idea of buy a home next year. Although, logically it's more like the year after that, or 2 years after that. But hey, can't stop me from looking!):
  • This house looks amazing! I love the open kitchen and living room. AND that it has a finished basement. Hello visitors!
  • Ok so out of all of these houses, we decided this is the one we would buy like, right now if we could. I am obsessed.

The Grossest Thing You Will Ever Read

Wednesday, August 16, 2017
Hi.

To be honest, I don't really know why I am writing this post. I guess I just feel like everyone else should have to experience the horror? Also this is my journal after all, and I'll write whatever the **** I think is worth remembering. And THIS is worth remembering. *shudders* *gags* *gags while shuddering*

So, let's set the scene. It's 1:00 am and the three amigos are sleeping (me, J, and Tucker, duh). I wake up to the sound of Tucker gagging. I immediately remember my friend Jovanna telling me about her dog throwing up and how she almost caught it in her hands but wasn't to that dog mom level yet. I, also, was not at that dog mom level yet (and probably will never be) so I just laid there.

(Let's take a short break to talk about me crying. If you know me IRL you know that I HATE CRYING. Like, the most uncomfortable situation I can think of myself in, is of me crying in front of someone who isn't also crying. I would rather stand butt naked in front of a crowd than cry in front of them. Idk why I am like this.

So naturally, I RARELY cry. Like if you see me cry, you better bottle those tears up because they will heal wounds. #iamaphoenix

The last time I cried was a year ago. I got sick and threw up for the first time since like, the 6th grade and I HATE throwing up. So I came back from the bathroom and BAWLED for a solid ten minutes. J was, validly, very weirded out.

But since then, I have cried 0 tears. (Well, now I am remembering another time I cried after getting my boobs chopped off (my mother hates when I phrase my breast reduction this way, hi mom).)

OK ANYWAY. I JUST DON'T CRY A LOT, OK? AND WHEN I DO IT'S LIKE, .5 TEARS.)

Ok so back to the story. So it's 1:00 am, Tucker is gagging, and I'm wondering if I'll ever be a good enough dog mom to catch his vomit in my hands. Second later: vomit. Everywhere. Vomit everywhere.

I wake J up (why do I do this?) and we clean it up and then go back to bed. No harm no foul. Well, LITTLE DID WE KNOW.

This was on the third night when we vomit proofed the room... and then he ended up not throwing up lol

The next night, Tucker gets up, again, at 1:00 am and throws up. I wake J up again and we go our separate ways. Me to put Tucker somewhere he can't attempt to eat his own vomit, and J to get the cleaning supplies. We meet back in the bedroom and J, with his hand full of paper towels, goes to grab the vomit.

I was like, "Wait..." I looked closer to see there was spaghetti in Tucker's throw up. Which was weird because we don't give Tucker people food. And also we hate spaghetti.

Only then the spaghetti's started moving. Like, stretching 5 inches above the vomit and trying to get away.

I yelled, "J THERE ARE WORMS IN THERE. THERE ARE WORMS IN THERE!!!" J was like, "What?!!!! No...... OH MY GOSH!!!"

Naturally, I immediately ran out of the room and into the furthest corner of the apartment, like any good wife would. J cleaned them up while I obsessively washed my hands, avoiding Tucker (who we now lovingly call Worms) at all costs because #wormgerms. As we crawled back into bed it for some reason just clicked to me that like, we have this gross dog with worms and like, he's been all over our bed and licks incessantly and I most likely have worms too. So, I started crying. Like, a lot. And sob-talking, which is equally as horrible. I ended up crying myself back to sleep, with J holding me and most likely wondering how I was supposed to be the mother of his children. (Not pregnant.)

The next morning we avoided Tucker like the plague. I came home from work and completely cleaned and sanitized everything in our room. Like, washed everything in hot water and wiped down every surface with alcohol wipes.

Gotta be covered from head to toe to protect yourself from the wormie germies.

I announced this fiasco on my Facebook, and everyone was like, "It's fine! He'll be fine! They are common!" assuming I was worried about Tucker. But in real life I was like, "Ok that's great but can we talk about me for a second?? Tucker was like, the last of my concerns.  So if you're wondering why I don't have kids yet, there ya go.

Tucker chillin' at the vet while she told us he had three different parasites. One of which she had never heard of before.

We took him to the vet the day after and she explained to us worms are transported fecal-oral. So like I'd have to eat his poop to get them pretty much. So, I maybe over reacted just a little bit. But honestly, I wouldn't be my true self if I didn't overreact for the entertainment of others. (This is how I justify it to myself.)

Currently, Worms (I mean Tucker) is on some puppy powder that's going to run us about $500 by the time he's done with it (yay for student loans). He is very happy and doesn't seem to know he has worms. I am also in a better place and do not believe I have worms. J, however, believed he had worms shortly after I got over my fear of worms. He thought he had them for a two day period and experienced much distress, but is also doing better now.

The positive to all of this is that probably nothing will ever be grosser than seeing worms in your dogs vomit. No baby fluids or rotten foods could possibly beat that. So, I guess we have that out of the way with. Although, we also learned that me + gross things = running away and crying uncontrollably. So, I'm not sure what kind of future that prepares me for. Luckily I am married to the world's nicest person who will not only clean up gross worm vomit, but then rub the back of his 23 year old wife while she cries about vomit. He's a true gem, that one.

Now, who wants spaghetti??

Primark has a Harry Potter range that is A+. I got these two cute pajama pants and some cute shorts that I am wearing right now as I type this. They are only $11!! SO RUN! They also have a men's pajama set. My Primark didn't have the Harry Potter home goods or baby clothes, so if yours does BUY THEM ALL. These were bought at the Danbury, Connecticut Primark, btw.

Primark is for sure the thing I will miss most about living on the East Coast. They reallllllly need to build at least one on the West Coast. I would drive HOURS for that store. I kid you not.

A Happy List: 165

Monday, August 14, 2017

This fry recipe is SO GOOD.

Tucker threw up worms :( More to come on that later! So I covered every surface of my body and disinfected the apartment lol. Also, I was on the other side of a metal door, trying to keep it open with a rock, when Tucker saw a dog and LUNGED after it. It slammed my hand on the corner of the metal door and this is what happened lol. I woke up in the middle of the night with it STILL hurting. #dogsaredangerous

When you tell your husband to get you a blanket but he covers you in a "pillow blanket" instead.

On to the happy list!

1/ Sitting on trains backwards. (My mom hates this lol.)

2/ The show Atypical.

3/ Trimming my plant from Ikea. The ends kept dying? Now it looks like one of those fig trees everyone is obsessed with.

4/ Small talk with people at dog parks.

5/ Seeing Tucker be chased by literally 10 dogs lol. He was the star of the show and it was so funny. He flippin' loved it. Me on the other hand... #nervousdogmom.

6/ The way Rachel Lindsey talks to Copper lol. It's so funny. I also like her sad face she used when the guys said something sad haha.

7/ J went to the grocery store and got every 👏 thing 👏 on 👏 the 👏 list. Since I am on break I am trying out some new recipes! Most of what I've tried out so far has been really good.

8/ Finishing Awkward. It was v cute.

9/ When dogs watch T.V.

10/ Tucker just jumped on the couch and laid down next to me! He stayed a whole three minutes without me petting him before leaving lol.

Funny things people said this week:
We were talking about how people die during childbirth. J was like, "What if it was really weird but like I died during your child birth?"

J: "Em, I'm wiping hair on my face! I'm doing it to build a resistance." (Because my hair is always in his face lol.)

We went to the dog park and there were a ton of other dogs there. Tucker played with them for a long time and then we drove home. On the drive home, we were talking about how much fun Tucker had. J usually isn't a "dog dad" but he started going off about him saying, "He is popular, Em!! He's an athlete... he's very sociable. And you know what, out of all the dogs I've seen him with, I haven't seen one run faster than him." I have lol-ed at this again both typing it and editing for typos hahahah.

A classmate told me I looked like Sandy from Grease because I was wearing faux leather leggings lol. Best compliment.

So when the trains are still at Grand Central, there isn't any service. I usually just play around on my phone until we are above ground. So, I was sitting down and playing Candy Crush. This business man next to me said, "Are you getting service?!?!" and looked over at my phone. He saw I was playing Candy Crush and was like, "Oh, you're doing nothing." hahaha.

J: "Yelp's like, "Looking for lunch?!" Ugh! No! I already have my lunch picked out and it's Taco Bell!!!!!! You think they would know by now!"
