temporary tattoo giveaway

Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Hello hello! Just a quick post to giveaway a little baggie of super cute temporary tattoos from Love Unstoppable! I can't tell you how obsessed I am with these. It took pretty much all my will to not snag one or two of those unicorns :). Not to mention how cute the little "c'est la vie" and "carpe diem" ones are. Inspiring quotes FTW!

I usually use henna for temporary tattoos, but lately I've been getting weird batches that take forever to dry. Plus, henna fades and isn't as crisp as temporary tattoos are. So, needless to say #temporarytattooobsessed. Spray a little hairspray on those suckers and you're good to go for a while!

To enter, just leave a comment telling me what your favorite part of thanksgiving is… and please don't say the horrible sales that are starting Thanksgiving day at dinnertime! I mean, really America? Really?! At least wait until Thanksgiving Day is over, in my opinion.

Anyways, good luck and happy Thanksgiving!

hair bow tutorial

Thursday, November 20, 2014
Hello hello. Here's a tutorial of how I do my hair bow. It's super easy! Also I've never done one of these before and it was 100% the most awkward thing. But anyways, I hope it makes sense!

some life snippets

Tuesday, November 18, 2014
Are you tired of these half-real-photos-half-iPhone-photos posts yet? HA. I am, but it's just so hard to lug a huge camera around in addition to my school backpack. After this semester I'm going to challenge myself to PHOTOGRAPH and not IPHONE…GRAPH. Who knows, who knows. Start with the bad quality, end with the good, right?

Sometimes in the mornings when I'm getting ready, I look out the window and see a little shivering Trixie just sitting and watching me. It's equal parts sad and adorable. / Put apples on my toast and unintentionally made a Mr. Mustache. Aka, made myself soooo happy. / First day of work selfie. If you don't take a picture of your first day of work, does it even happen? Haha jk, I actually wanted to take a picture of my outfit, because I am finally at a job where I can wear 100% whatever I want and I am so excited. / Jake came home in an elf hat bearing gifts of mini Sprite can AND mini vanilla wafers. Reasons why I love my husband.

I talk about Jake's braids every day of my life it seems like, BUT LOOK AT THAT BRAID. You guys, he's so good! He braids my hair every night and I'm not even kidding, they're super intact when I wake up. I am a tossy-turning sleeper too. That boy, I'm tellin' ya. / Gotta appreciate snow covered mountains. Pretty sure it's one of the better things in life. / You also must appreciate the view of a sunset over Salt Lake Valley while you're driving over the point of the mountain. / You also must appreciate the beautiful-ness (??) that is Mormon temples. So many beautiful things, so little time!

Oh, you didn't request to see my most awkward photo?? Sorry about that. LOL. No, but this hair twist is like, ma new fave. It takes a second, but it has such a unique look. I'm obsessed. Here's the tutorial.

THE FIRST SNOWFALL. Or, as Jake would say, "it's snowing tiny babies". I skipped school this day and let me tell ya. Drinking my delicious hot chocolate, sitting in the front room studying and listening to Christmas jazz, there was no better time to look out the window and see SNOW. I love snow. So much. Also, winter in general. Every time I'm walking to school I just obsess over how much I love breathing in cold winter air. It's like a refreshing drink for your lungs.

Matte nail polish is the new best thing. I'm obsessed and am super glad to be done with busy school things so I can get back into the weekly nail obsession. I've had it lying around the house for a month or two now, and honestly forgot it existed. However, I don't think I can ever forget it exists again, considering how amazing it is. You must try it immediately!

After finishing my last test on Saturday, I booked it to the fabric store and made our stockings! Christmas is coming, you guys. IT IS COMING.

I know all caps bugs so many people, but for me it expresses excitement/passion, so I shall continue to use it.

That is life lately, my friends.

Getting a (real) job!!!  / Hanging out with Katherine and having a great many awkward moments (including, but not limited to, responding to a person who wasn't talking to us and a flying lid) / Eating delicious pizza from Pieology / Saying "wiki" / Jake bringing me apples on a kid's plate shaped like an apple LOL / Being done with tests until December 10th / Date night with Mila and Jeremy / Baking Christmas treats! / Driving over the point of the mountain at sunset / All the nice comments you all left me on my last post. I didn't know that many people cared! Thank you for taking the time out of your day to congratulate me and for following this cyberspace of mine.

Funny things people have said this week:

Jake (via text): "It's snowing tiny babies"

Katherine (via text): "It tasted like heaven. Little apple heaven."

Jake: "She's just being Rikkie, ya know?" (Said in a moment of silence, about Trixie sleeping on the couch)

Here's some internet things to make you happy!

This blog post. I'm just waiting for her to write a book so I can read it so many times. / This video where Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal. / This brilliant non-profit that gives villages the tools to make money, instead of just giving them money / This video of a Shih Tzu dressed in a teddy bear costume, don't ask me how many times I watched it, because I literally couldn't count / Le documented struggles of a French bebe

If you don't already follow Hellogiggles, DO. Seeing their cute posts is the only reason I keep Facebook (well, that AND the birthday wishes, because come on, it doesn't get better than that). Have a good week!

P.S. Finally made a way those who are interested can "shop my closet". My instagram is @emmyjakecloset and I'm not setting the price for anything. It's bidding style, and bidding will close Sunday, November 23rd at midnight. I hope that makes sense lol. I mainly just want to get rid of stuff, so if $2 is what you want it for, $2 is what you'll get it for! There is literally no bid that will be to low for me.

i got a job!!!!!

Saturday, November 15, 2014

YOU GUYS. Exciting things are happening over here!

I got my first, real, adult, not-just-anyone-can-get-this job! I'm super excited because my work history has consisted of the dinosaur museum's cafe at Thanksgiving Point, Mimi's Cafe for like a second, Beans and Brews, Starbuck's, back to the dinosaur museum, and then to a different Starbuck's. I liked *most* all of those jobs, but it feels sooooooo good to know I will finally be working in my specialized area at a treatment center!

I found out on Tuesday and it was perfect. I had to go to Draper to get a drug test (which is an awkward story for another time) and then met my friend Katherine. So, I grabbed some Pieology  on the way home (which by the way, did NOT disappoint) and also a rose from the floral shop Jake and I (me unknowingly) got the roses that Jake used to propose to me.

I honestly didn't think I got the job, and was super bummed about having to take 18 credits next semester. However, now I can do 9 credits of internship (which is really just working), and then 2 online classes, and 1 class in Salt Lake one day a week! Basically my schedule next semester will be 100% heaven and the perfect way to end my undergraduate career.

Now, if I can just get through this semester of taking 18 credits AND working. (Insert crying-eyes-out-emoji-here.) So far, in the 54 days that have passed in this semester I have taken 7 TESTS. I love school, but tests are not ma fave. Today is, wait for it, MY LAST TEST UNTIL DECEMBER 10TH.

That is freedom, my friends, freedom.

And then I shall have the worst finals week in the history of finals weeks, but I will be done with tests by my birthday and then everything will be *hopefully* smooth sailing from there! I'M SO EXCITED TO GRADUATE I CAN'T EVEN EXPRESS IT IN WORDS YOU GUYS. THERE ARE NO WORDS.

Anyways, that is all!

a you're-almost-there giveaway

Wednesday, November 12, 2014
Hello hello! I'm getting so close with being done with school I'm having a hard time getting motivated to do the work! I know it probably sounds dumb, but if I have cute notebooks, or a cute backpack, I want to put it to good use and it gets me motivated to push through!

I recently discovered the glory of computer cases. My computer is getting pretty scratched up and I debated between whether I should get one of those stickers for my laptop, or just a case. I settle on a simple felt case. I feel so dumb just carrying my computer on campus, and often times my backpack is too full (read: my backpack is too heavy with my computer in it for my weakling body) to fit it in there so I love how cute and simple these are.

So, just in case anyone out there is feeling like this school year is never ending, or this week is never ending, here's a little pick me up! I'm giving away these two cute laptop cases to help ya make it through!

Just leave a comment telling me what has made you happiest today to be entered! The winner will be announced next week. Make sure there is a way to contact you if you win. Good luck!

Driving home during the sunset / Finding out my grandma and her husband are coming down for Christmas / I accidentally pantsed Jake while sliding down him like a fire pole post-hug haha / When you suck a tootsie pop until it just has a small candy shell around the tootsie and then bite it. MEGA YUM. / Decorating our Christmas tree / Seeing The Maze Runner at long last / Hanging out with the classiest great dane / Spontaneously playing Mystery Date with my mom, Jake, my sister, and her husband last night / My matte tipped nails / Jake deciding to put my present underneath the tree instead of hiding it until Christmas morning

The last two pictures on this blog post… so cute!! / This video of baby sloths getting a hair cut / This Shih Tzu dressed as a teddy bear

Funny things people said this week:
(After watching Sleepless In Seattle)
Jake: "Aweeeee, am I your Walter?"

(hugging cheek-to-cheek after discussing moving to New York)
Me (whispers): "I love New York."
Jake: "I love you too."

(while cuddling in bed)
Jake: "Be little. Do what you do best." (He wanted me to cuddle him with my head below his chin hahahaha) (Also, we then proceeded to name all of the positions we cuddle in. If I ever get a GoPro you can bet that will be one of the first shoots that happens!)

lately

Saturday, November 8, 2014
I lost my red lipstick and have been so sad. I ended up ordering a new dark purple thinking it would be fun to try a new color, but I just really miss the red haha. Luckily, I got another email from Delta Skymiles saying there were offering 10 sky miles per dollar spent at Nordstrom, so I took that as a sign that I should just give up hope on finding my red lipstick and buy a new one.

Ended up being obsessed with shadows lately and it turns out the window in my front room is 100% perfect.

Every picture I have of my mom looks like this. Do you think I'm joking? I'm not HAHA.

Cutest face peeking out at me while studying for my test.

Skully hit me up at the door with dried flowers all over her like it was nothing. I'm like, "You should be embarrassed and this is also what you get for being so mean."

Ask me how I feel about the grade I got on my Drugs test.

So far, since getting my hair cut mid-October-ish I have only used heat on it ONCE (for my halloween costume). Between that, not washing my hair every day (I still shower don't worry LOL), and coconut oil masks I feel like my hair is FINALLY becoming super healthy and thick. So, these lasts few weeks braids have been the most lifesaver of all. There's probably lots more coming so prep for that.

*When I refer to hair I'm definitely excluding my bangs haha (I don't know why they're separate in my mind, they just are for some reason. I wish I could get them to look like this without it!*

Also been randomly into try new foods? Darn those festive Pinterest photos. Anyways, I made pumpkin waffle bites, white chocolate and blackberry s'mores, honey and apple toast, and this morning eggs and cheese on toast because the other recipes were horrible. HAHA. The woes of using Pinterest recipes, am I right?!

My nice sister and her husband took us to Relient K for her birthday. Mega throwback to when Sadie Hawkin's Dance was the favorite song of everyone. / My sister's dog has a plaid Christmas outfit and it's literally the cutest. / More braids. I told you! But really, double fishtails is my new favorite thing. It works so well with beanies and saves the most time.

I thought I was done with tests until finals week, but it turns out I have a neurobiology test next week! So, wish me luck!

study break

Tuesday, November 4, 2014
Hello hello!! Yesterday Leah (who did these photos) and Riley invited me on their photo adventure. When you can take a study break and photo adventure, you do take a study break and photo adventure, right???

Anyways, basically I'm just really happy that beanie and sweater weather is here at last. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year! Jake and I have been getting all of our Christmas stuff ready so we can have a stress-free December. Nothing's better than just relaxing and eating yummy treats, knowing everything is already done!

Also, I'm wanting to get back into painting! If anyone wants a watercolor of themselves, sort of like the header on this blog, email me a picture and I'll send you one. I'm not charging anything, because mainly I just really want to paint hahahaha. Anyways! That's all for today! Wish me luck on my test and have a good rest of your day!

a happy list: 37 + iPhone diary

Monday, November 3, 2014
We finally tried Masa! We went on Halloween and literally there was no one else there haha. Anyways, I'm still probably not the biggest fan of tacos (mainly I should have requested no onions, but I apparently don't know myself very well), but the plantain dessert was DELISH.

Also excuse me because most of the pictures on my phone are of my dog. She was a dinosaur on Halloween, and then my mom scored a pirate and lion costume on sale the day after Halloween! I'm obsessed with the pirate one. THAT HAT <3

Also, I'm not sure if I ever introduced the idea of happy lists, or any of that. I could literally say SO MUCH ABOUT THEM, but I care so much about explaining it right I will save that for a post later this week! Keep your eye peeled.

- - - - -

The smell of the house when the heater is going / Chick-Fil-A billboards / Reading my happy list from last year at this time (which is also the first that I did) / Finally trying out Masa (or just going to a restaurant by ourselves for the first time since Valentine's Day) / FINALLY WATCHING DARK SKIES (We have been waiting for wayyy too long. It lived up to expectations.) / Rearranging the basement to accommodate our Christmas tree and also to feel more homey / Trying the new coconut tofu dish at Bombay House (And the busboy/man hugging my mother after she guessed his name right hahaha) / Ordering a new lipstick and getting 160 skymiles for doing so (I lost my red Mac somehow and I've literally felt so weird (and not myself) not wearing lipstick at all this week) / Dressing Trixie up in her new costumes my mom got her from Michael's the day after Halloween / Seeing Much Ado About Zombies... Don't get me wrong it was totally weird and random, but also it was the funniest thing / Finally ordering a new fish eye lens since my last one disappeared into mid air

Here's some internet things to make you happy!
This vintage video (if I somehow came into a Super 8 I wouldn't even be mad) / This Halloween short / This picture from Katherine's blog / This clip from Criminal Minds... can this please be my future child? I can't even / This photoshoot by Jaci Marie, because when does she not nail it every time (Hint: She always nails it). And also that lavender hair is perfect (hint hint, Katherine, hint hint).

P.S. If you do happy lists and want to be featured here, send me an email with your list and a photo to go along with it! If you don't do happy lists… start! Keep a small journal by your bed and instead of browsing Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Bloglovin' on repeat, jot down a few things!
