We were on a really hot subway train. Jake: "It's like a hot box in here! I mean... a"

Jake and I were at the grocery store. He went to get parmesan cheese while I got bowtie pasta. We met at the check out and as we were loading our stuff onto the belt I noticed he got mozarella instead of parmesan. I told him and he sprinted back to get mozarella just as I had finished paying. So we had her scan it again and then went to load up our bags. It turns out he had gotten SOFT MOZZARELLA!! Hahhahaha. He ran back for a third time and got the right cheese lolz.

Weekly Nail: OMGZ

Ok can I just tell you guys that the nails I did 2 weeks ago lasted ALMOST 2 WEEKS! Usually I have chips after the first day or two, but they seriously didn't chip until like day 6 or 7. I am going to make a gif of these though, so you guys can see for yourself.

I mainly switched to Zoya cause it was 5 free, but I am sticking with it because it's really good quality and lasts forever. I think it might be the top coat?

Anyway, you can just freehand these scallops! It really is pretty easy :)

Ice Cream Bae

Guys we found the best ice cream! Emack and Bolios. Add it to your list! Jake loves the red velvet and I love the funfetti in the fruit loop cone. The fruit loops are held on by marshmallow and it's SO GOOD!

Fourth of July

Well, now that you've all heard about our horrible weekend (aside from Saturday) let's be positive for a second. Sunday night I told Jake, "We have to make tomorrow awesome." And honestly, I think we did a pretty good job!

First off, I got this shirt for $20!

We started off our day with Vanessa's Dumplings in Brooklyn. They have a location in Manhattan, but we wanted to check out Williamsburg. The thing the other bloggers don't tell you about living in New York is that after you are done paying rent you hardly have any money left for food, ha!!

This is a good cheap eats. They have chicken and chive dumplings 4 for $1.25, and veggie ones 4 for $2.50 or something. They also have a v good sesame pancake.

GUY LETS JUST TALK ABOUT THIS ICE CREAM. Like honestly, I have been pretty disappointed in some of the food the New York bloggers rave about (ahem Jacques Torres) but THIS ICE CREAM IS THE REAL DEAL. I am not even an ice cream person but like it's so hot here I have been craving it? It's a problem.

I got the ooey gooey butter cake. It's a CREAM CHEESE BASE! I obviously gained 10 pounds but it was worth it. I think they have different flavors depending on the day, so maybe call before making the trek and make sure they have the flavor you are looking for! Jake got the strawberry and I didn't taste any of it because I was inhaling mine. He liked it though. (What doesn't Jake like lol.)

Do you guys remember my goal of getting more pictures of myself and also teaching Jake photography? Well, he did the lighting for this all by himself and I am so proud. My biggest fear is that I will die when we have kids and Jake will be like lost because I've always done the photography, baking, etc. So I make it a point to teach him how to do the typical "house wifery" haha. Honestly like he can make some food better than me now! So I'm feeling pretty confident in my future death haha.

The Martin Creed piece at Brooklyn Bridge Park! It was super cool and rotated. It's on Pier 6, for anyone wanting to visit. Make sure it is still there when you visit though, because I think it's only there for a few more months.

The lady who took these had blurry results at first. The old Emily would have been like, "Those are good, thanks." I would have been to timid to tell her to take more. BUT I TOLD HER TO TAKE MORE. And I'm glad we did cause now we have a cutie pic. Also Jake is growing his hair out and it's usually tucked behind his ears, but it was windy AF so that's why he looks like 14 in this picture lol.

Oh hey look it's my worst enemy the subway. It's so weird but like my favorite train is when it is really full but I have a seat. Like I hate when it is semi-empty and there is a crazy person onboard. I am always scared they are going to attack me lol.

For dinner we got Prince Street Pizza. It was dead everywhere else in the city, but for some reason that place was BUMPIN'. I felt so bad for the kid working there, because this customer was being a total douche and yelling at him. They were completely out of pizza haha. I asked the employee if he had any cheese pizza coming out soon and he was like, "I don't know I don't know" and did a litttle frowny face haha. It was so sad. So we just got two pieces of pepperoni and I took off the peps. We really liked it while we were eating it. It was Jake's favorite pizza we've had in the city! Mine is still Juliana's (thanks K). 

Anyway, so we get home and I start feeling sick. It turns out I got sick from the pizza! I am no longer saying "food poisoning" because I think the problem is me and not the food. I am planning a fitness-ish post and will talk more about it then haha.

We were going to watch fireworks, but then it started raining while we were getting treats. Like don't get me wrong, I love fireworks, but also I didn't want to get stuck in a crowd for 2 hours or anything. So we ended up just coming home and watching a scary movie. We decided that will be our Fourth of July tradition. We watched As Above So Below and it was actually better than we thought it would be!

Anyway, this turned out to be kind of a long post... probably because I have had minimal conversations with real people today haha. So I'm all chatty.

The WORST WEEKEND.

Guys, I am sparing no detail in this post so just be forewarned. This past weekend was the absolute WORST! I am writing this post on Sunday. We just got back from what was supposed to be our anniversary trip aka our anniversary present, but it was so bad I told Jake point blank, "This doesn't count."

It all started on Friday. Our plan for the weekend was to stay at a 2 star motel (bad idea), rent a car through Turo and explore upper New York. We were renting out our apartment on Airbnb from Friday-Sunday.

SO.

Friday: I get off work at 5:30pm and it is POURING RAIN. There is also a tornado watch which I am terrified of. I have a 30 pound backpack that I brought with me, so I run in the pouring rain and meet Jake at Shake Shack. He has been trying to book cars on Turo, but keeps getting turned down. So we decide to get some food and decide what to do. Remember, it is POURING RAIN AND FRIDAY NIGHT. So, Shake Shack is packed and of course people are being idiots and "saving booths" before they even have their food. Other people have their trays of food and are wandering around trying to find somewhere to sit and eat. We get our food and wander around for like 5 minutes before 1 seat frees up. I sit down. I loudly complain about how people are idiots. Like, if you don't have your food yet then DON'T SAVE SEATS WHEN THERE ARE LIKE TEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE THEIR FOOD LOOKING FOR A SEAT. Meanwhile, there is a girl across from us reading who is finished with her meal. After listening to me complain for a good 3 minutes, she finally says, "Do you want my seat?!" And I was just like, "Yes, thank you so much." Hahaha. But honestly, like that chick had to go because #commonsense. 

So, we eat and Jake is wanting to book a Turo because Zipcar would cost like $400 since it's a holiday weekend. So, he's wanting to wait to see if our Turo booking gets accepted, after 2 others have been turned down. I'm just like, "No, we are booking Zipcar." Haha. (He was not happy at first but later in the trip literally said, "I'm glad you made me do this.")

The rain stops, we get to our Zipcar and have a great time driving to our motel. We get to our $66 a night motel and it is like a total dump. There is a guy in a wife beater yelling on the phone with choice words. Another shirtless guy smoking outside his door. The blanket has cigarette burns. Everything smells like weed.

This was when we were just happy to be in a car again haha.

We put our stuff down (minus our valuables) and go to the mall. We have a good time there with green smoothies and Independence Day. We get back at 1:30am and both of our neighbors are watching action movies at full volume. The walls are paper thin so we can hear EVERYTHING.

Saturday: This was a good day. We left the hotel IMMEDIATELY haha and Jake canceled our reservation for that night. We get donuts and Taco Bell and explore some fun areas. We book a nice, new hotel in Stamford, Connecticut and have a lovely dinner. We are fans of Stamford, Connecticut. We go to bed happy and in love with life.

Guys these tater tots were life.

This was us just happy to be in a hotel that didn't have a mix of blood, urine, and semen everywhere. (Shout out if you remember that episode of The Office.) We used Hotel Tonight to find it and I actually really liked it. Not partnered with them or anything, just a fan hahaha. 

Sunday: We wake up and try to leave the hotel. Our car won't start. We try to jump it before calling Zipcar and hearing that our reservation ended at 10:00am. It's currently 11:00am. Zipcar tells us that they can't extend our reservation because someone has it reserved right after us. We skip breakfast and book it back to New York City. We drop off our Zipcar and I panick because we have 30 pound backpacks and can't go back to our apartment until 5:00 when our Airbnb guests check out.

We debate on whether to leave our backpacks at the church, take them with us, or bug our Airbnb guests and see if we can drop them off. (I now realize we should have just dropped them off at my friend Kayla's hotel FML.) We bug our Airbnb guests and they are cool and don't mind that we drop our backpacks off. LITTLE DID I KNOW I WAS FORGETTING MY BIRTH CONTROL AND TAMPONS. (This is where it gets TMI but I don't really care.)

We get breakfast at Starbuck's. Starbuck's is like my home away from home because there are so many of them and you can always chill there if you need to. #partneredwithStarbuck's no, I'm just kidding hahahaha. My birth control alarm goes off and I realize that I'll be 4 hours late taking it. It's no one's business what we are doing kid-wise, but it's part of the story so I'm leaving it in haha. I let out choice words and decide that there isn't much I can do about it and move on.

We try to go to The Met but think it's closed for some reason so we go to Levain instead and get cookies.

I was setting up my lighting to have Jake take a photo of me here, and this tourist looked straight at me and then pushed in front of me and stood here. Like, that is what I am talking about when I say annoying tourists haha.

This is one cookie... split in half... IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

We go to Riverside park and I'm feeling better about the day. I'm thinking we are going to take some cute pictures (we didn't get any all weekend as you can see from this post) and the day will get better. Right on cue my body decides that I'm not done with my period. (I usually am on this day so I didn't think it would matter.) If you have ever been without a tampon, in the middle of somewhere that doesn't have tampons (a park, a hike, camping, w/e) then you can feel my pain on this, right?!

Luckily, our Airbnb guests need to check out an hour early, so we get a Lyft back to our neighborhood and wait on someone's stoop for half and hour until they leave. Literally at this point I am so done I am like, trying SO hard to not cry.

We finally get back to our apartment and that's the end.

UGH. Like, I am pretty adventurous so I don't need like perfection with vacations, but like there was a lot that went wrong! The motel is a funny story, but I'm not sure if the rest of the story is ever going to be funny. Anyway, that's how I became convinced that I need a car hahaha. Having a car is ultimate freedom.

Drinking Alcohol On Our Anniversary!

For our anniversary dinner we tried The Smith! We were big fans of the blue cheese fondue appetizer, but not super impressed with the rest of our food. We do want to go back and try some other main dishes! I like to give places 2 trys to amaze me haha.

Ok so funny story time. We don't drink alcohol. Jake ordered a Lime Rickey thinking it was soda and when it came it tasted really weird. I tried it and it was for sure like, such a weird flavor. (Side note: When we were in Cancun on our anniversary we orderd Pina Coladas thinking they didn't have alcohol, and they totally did! They didn't ID us or anything haha.) So, naturally we start thinking that we accidentally ordered alcohol again. We are like, dying laughing and thinking it's the funniest thing. We ask a busboy what's in the Lime Rickey and he doesn't know. We decide to just not drink it instead of making a big deal out of it.

A little while later, we find the drink menu and it was listed under HOUSE SODAS!!! Hahahah. The only thing dumber than accidentally ordering alcohol is thinking your ordered alcohol when you ordered a soda lolzzzzzzz.

We forgot to use the photobooth in the basement, so we'll have to do that next time!

Here are some funny things people said this week:

Jake: *holds up hummus we've had for a month* "Should I eat this or is it too soon?"
Me: "What?"
Jake: "Should I eat this or is it too soon since you just bought it?"
Me: "Jake that's been in there for like a month!"
Then minutes later Jake is looking for the pita bread I threw away hours earlier.
Me: "Are you looking for the pita bread?"
Jake: "Yeah, where'd it go?"
Me: "I threw it away like two hours ago!"
Jake: "Gah!"
Me: "Just eat it with carrots."
Jake: "Ugh, carrots."
Then minutes later:
Jake: *totally serious* "Hey, remember that one person who really loved carrots?
Me: "No? Who was it?"
Jake: "No one because there isn't one!"

I ordered a book called Sharp Objects, and Jake got the Amazon notification that literally said, "Sharp Objects is being shipped to your house." But he read it in the morning and was so concerned, like "What did you order?!?!"

Weekly Nail - Interrupted

The reason why there is no weekly nail is because we have been busy having borderline the absolute WORST WEEKEND EVER. I will have to tell you guys all about it once I get my emotions under control. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper.

The Actual Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe you will ever find. I PROMISE.

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

3 1/2 cups flour

1 cup chocolate chip cookies

Add all this into a mixer in the order listed! 

For little/regular cookies, use a tablespoon and bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees. 

For giant/amazing/wonderful cookies, use a 1/3 cup and bake at 300 degrees.

I used to always make these the regular size, but after eating the cookies at Levain I have started making them giant and they are SO. GOOD. If your giants are too doughy in the middle, just lower your oven temperature.

Make sure to store in an air tight container!
