some birthday celebration snippets

Saturday, July 12, 2014
So Thursday was Jake's birthday! Let's just say, it wasn't exactly how I planned it, because cars kept breaking down on me. I was planning a little surprise camping trip, but that didn't happen haha. So we watched some X-Files instead, and the next morning we dined on some donuts from Banbury Cross (after reading on Olivia's blog that they are the best). They were a success! Needless to say they were pretty much gone by the end of the day hahahaha.

I guess this isn't super birthday related, but I ordered this dinosaur costume for Trixie, and when we got it it was wayyyy too small. So, we put it on Jake's family's dog instead. HAHAHAHA!

We stopped by Jimmy John's for some birthday grub!

We were going to go to The Fault in our Stars, and so we decided to play Left for Dead 2 until it was time to leave, but then we just got caught up in slaying those zombies and didn't go to the movie haha.

Since my car broke, and then the car I was borrowing broke, I didn't have a vehicle to get fabric for Jake's giant donut pillow, so I had to improvise and make this baby one with fabric from Wal-Mart hahaha. Jake kept wearing it like this and it was literally the funniest thing.

We ended the night with a little scooter ride in the rain drizzle! Gosh, scooters are one of those things you forget you love until you get on one, ya know?

Even though it was far from what I was planning for him, I think the day turned out alright!

the fourth of july ya know

Friday, July 11, 2014
Our fourth was pretty chill. My sister and her family came over and spent the day with us. Her kids were FREAKING out at the fireworks we lit in the backyard. It was literally the funniest thing. My niece insisted on staying inside, and my nephew was fine for like, the first couple. And then he randomly started crying. HAHAH. Not the reactions we were expecting, but what can ya do.

FIRST QUARTER MOON. I know it sounds dumb, but ever since taking Astronomy and the beginning of our X-Files obsession, the moon is such a cool thing to me. I could go off for a bit, but I shall spare you.

The sunset view on our way to see fireworks! Jake and I were initially going to go up to Squaw Peak and watch fireworks from there, but then we decided to watch The Fourth Kind (AMAZING, BTW) and take a nap. After that it was a little too late to make it there in time to get a good spot, so we went to Thanksgiving Point with my family instead.

HAHAHA. So, I'll probably regret posting this later when I see it on a "10 Fails" buzzfeed or something, but my niece made like this really long glow stick and right when my mom was taking this picture of us, my brother-in-law whipped it at us. Our faces are so the definition of "dweeb" I can't even handle.

Firework photography is something I have yet to master. I hadn't seen any until like a few days after the fourth, so I will have to do better on the 24th!

My brother-in-law wanted to leave early and beat all the traffic, so we just drove out to the road and watched the rest from the car. My sister took this picture of us and I'm obsessed with it. I feel like it's the "quintessences of summer". Haha. Props to the sis, props to the sis.

This year was a good one! It had been a while since I had seen a good firework show, since last year we were in Cancun, and the year before I honestly can't remember what was happening, and the year before that we missed it accidentally! I always say the only two good things about summer are snow cones and fireworks, so yay for seeing a good show at last!

first anniversary!

Wednesday, July 9, 2014
I just have to start this with a shout out to My Cute Husband for planning our entire awesome anniversary weekend! I was having small panic attacks about my forever long list of things to do and handed our anniversary celebrations over to him, and he did wayyyyy better at planning it then I ever could have! Furthermore, it was all a surprise. BEST HUSBAND.

We went up to Deer Valley and settled into our cutest hotel. We grabbed some lunch at Jimmy Johns and window shopped some beautiful Apple products we will *maybe* have one day (college, am I right). We talked to some phone guys, and I made a momentary decision that I would rather do anything in the world, including, but not limited to:
snuggle a cat
eat a steak
run a marathon
cut off all my hair
watch waterworld
listen to dogs licking all day
peel off my fingernails one by one
pluck out my eyelashes and eyebrows
stab my eyes out with a fork

than speak with a sprint/tmobile/verizon/at&t employee about getting a new phone plan. It is literally the worst, I have decided. And probably nothing will ever be worse than it. I could literally talk about this for hours, so if you need a conversation starter, ask me how I feel about cell phone shopping.

ANYWAYS. My brother-in-law gave us some cash and made us dinner reservations at... Ruth Chris! Apparently he feels everyone should try one of their stakes. They put cute rose petals on the table for our anniversary, and it was adorable.

They had the most delicious onion rings sent from the Gods, and like this asian sauce? No one knows but it was sooooo good.

I feel it's important to note that if you are a vegetarian, this is what your meal at Ruth Chris will look like. While the fries were delicious, the asparagus was so-so and a tomato? Who knows. Good, but not super filling, haha. But, on the plus side, Jake loved his steak so much he had trouble holding a conversation, so there's that.

Cute car selfies. My brother-in-law let us borrow his BMW convertible (seeing a theme with my brother-in-law? They basically have tons of awesome stuff and are rather nice.) and it made me get some mad street cred from some "dope homies" in Salt Lake.

The next morning we went up to Deer Valley and rode the ski lifts to the very top of the mountain, and then hiked down! It was so fun (and slightly strange) to see the slopes minus all the snow. Also, most beautiful.

Post ski lift #1!

There were all taken at the top of the mountain. It was so pretty! And so much fun to not have to hike the entire way. Call me lazy, but I'm down for a nice, calm ski lift ride to a beautiful view like this.

We definitely got lost on the way down and started going down some random paths.

We finally found the Ontario hiking trail! Which was nice after having to back track like, fifteen minutes. So, yay.

We hiked through the cutest little grove of trees. It was so peaceful! It's where I imagined Bella and Edward being when she sees him sparkle for the first time. (Judge me.)

Feeling real granola with our Clif bars and LifeWater lunch. Ignore my Jones. The bottles are just so beautiful I can't resist.

We saw two squirrels on our hike!! They both just like, froze and posed for us. Can you have a squirrel as a pet?

How lucky are the chaps who own this tree house? I'm pretty sure sitting in this dude would make whatever you are doing like, 87% cooler.

Randomly enough, we ended up going to The Pie on Saturday, just like we did the day after we got married. Also, Jake packed me a dress and strangely enough it was the same dress I wore leaving our reception. So, coincidences I guess.

Kneaders is the nicest and gave us this free little cake for our anniversary, so we got it fresh! It was nice, because I don't remember either of us getting much cake at our reception. Darn those people. Can't they just leave the bride and groom alone and let them eat their stupid food?! Say hi to me later! #issueswiththesystem

But, really, it was an awesome weekend. I'm so pleased I married the nicest human being in the world who knows me so well! I couldn't have asked for a better bb.

a happy list: 20

Monday, July 7, 2014

watching home videos / milly's sunrise drink (go to starbucks and ask for ice, blackberry syrup, and a lemon ale poured over that, it's the best) / watching can't buy me love (and just old movies in general) / making vegetarian chicken salad sandwiches / finishing a bridal shoot! / finally going to bikram yoga / going shopping with ma bb for the first time and getting some sweet deals (poor college students, lol) / watching my niece and nephew have some serious meltdowns at seeing fireworks for the first time / drinking bottled rootbeer / getting compliments on my lipstick

I'll be honest, I totally forgot to keep a list of awesome things that happened during the week, so this was sort of... on the spot I guess. Not the best, but it was still an amazing week! This one isn't looking too great since one of the girls at my work quit and my hours got doubled, but I'm determined to finish my class no matter what! Graduation is a must!

date night

Saturday, July 5, 2014

We finally made it to the food truck round up! It was AMAZING. Basically, just like ten food trucks in a circle and you can get delicious, delicious food from a wide variety of places. We opted for Fiore Pizza (which is the best pizza in Utah, IMO (Jake is a fan of The Pie)) and Art City Donuts. The lines were pretty long, but after we ordered we ran to McDonald's to pick up some drinks so it worked out pretty well by the time we got back.

It was a nice break from continuous things! Although life is starting to slow down now that Jake is done with school and just has work. I just finished editing a bridal shoot I did as well, and got bumped down to 12 hours a week at work, so basically life is going to be getting extra good for these bbs. More delicious food, more delicious adventures, and more delicious tv shows!

a happy list: 19

gett 100% on my motivation final / buying tickets to glass animals at kilby court (!!!) / eating a rainbow snow cone / celebrating our first anniversary / getting a free mini version of our wedding cake and getting to taste the goodness at last / the lighting at the capitol during the bridal shoot i did / seeing two squirrels on our hike / my mother-in-law hashtagging #bebeandbacon on the picture she posted of me and jake / a coworker volunteering to take my shift even though i had no reason to not work, resulting in a fantastic day off / and best of all... a month or two ago, i tried to alter a cute yellow coat to fit my arms, and waist, and i also added white buttons. i broke two needles and got really frustrated trying to fix it, so i just threw it away and cried. jake (being the small gem he is) fished it out of the trash can without me knowing, had it altered, and gave it to me for our anniversary. i almost cried! i now have the cutest yellow coat with white buttons, all thanks to my cutest, most thoughtful husband ever

this week was definitely a good one!
