In Case You Were Wondering How New Yorkers Survive Without Cars...

ONLINE SHOPPING.

I literally don't know how else they would be able to do it?

Amazon is amazing and has same-day shipping for certain metro areas. #lifesaver. They also have primepantry which ships you actual food. Oh, and if they don't have the food you were looking for then grocery stores in Manhattan will bring your order straight to your door if it's about a certain amount.

I only wish we had figured all of this out before lugging various bags of goods around the city haha.

The Tiniest Sushi!

Jake is going to kill me for the first picture but it's too good not to share.

These baby sushi from Sashimi Express were sooo good! Definitely do the 7 for $21 deal if you're feeding 2 people, though hahaha.

Getting In A Fight With Ikea

Friday, April 29, 2016
I have been an avid Ikea fan for YEARS. YEARS I TELL YOU. When we made our moving plans, we decided to buy most everything from Ikea because it's not expensive and we love it. We read online that the Ikea in Brooklyn offers same day and next day delivery.

On Wednesday, when we officially got our apartment, we called them to place our order. They told us  they didn't do same day delivery any more. And we needed to come into the store before 3:00 pm in order to get the next day delivery. It was already 2:00 pm and the commute to Ikea is like an hour from where we live. (Although I just heard you can take a ferry there instead of subway/bus!) So, we woke up early on Thursday and made the commute to Ikea.

(Side note: This is why I love the Upper East Side! I mean have you ever seen cleaner subway tracks? #beautiful #art #clean #noratsnomo)

By the time we got there we were starving, so we decided to just eat there instead of having to take the bus all the way back to the subway and go somewhere else. While we were in line we saw a little statue of liberty out the window. We spent a good 5 minutes debating whether or not it was real haha. We're still not 100% but I don't understand what else it could be? Also now we can cross that off our list without having to stand in long tourist lines hahaha. :)

Mega lol at Jake's bed head. This was his first time with a rat's nest and he was so confused. He kept saying, "I have never had one of these!!!!!" I don't know if it's because his hair is getting longer or because we slept without a pillow case? But at any rate we definitely looked homeless our first few days here haha.

After going through Ikea and picking out all the stuff we wanted, they sassily told us that the soonest we could get our stuff would be on Sunday... AKA NOT next day shipping. I went around and asked like 3 different employees and it turned out to be true haha. So, that sucked, but at least we only have 2 more nights until we have a proper bed to sleep on!

First Night In Our Apartment!

Literally this is where we have been sleeping! We went to Target and got some essentials. Thank the heavens the tenant before us left us her couch or I don't know what we would have done!

Our apartment is actually really quiet. We aren't facing the street so we don't have a gorgeous view of the city, but we also don't have any street noise which is nice. Side note: You know how there are ambulances always driving all over the city? Well, in our area, any time you hear an ambulance it's a "senior care" car haha. I love it!

We have to sleep on this couch until Sunday :( but at least we'll be able to appreciate our $200 Ikea mattress when it gets here haha.

SHAKE SHACK AT LAST.

Haha we are obsessed with Shake Shack. We were when we came here a few years ago and we are still! I love the one on 86th because it has this super cute little outdoor area where you can eat <3

Jake's tried the Chick'N Shack and Shackburger and says both are delicious. I always get the 'Sroom Burger: a fried portobello mushroom filled with muenster and cheddar cheese... mmmmmm.

Haha remember in high school when everyone covered their mouth when they were eating? Such lolz.

Probably Shake Shack is the reason why people move here. Not even kidding.

Chop'T

Our second meal in New York was Chop'T! I got romaine, tomatoes, rainbow carrots, and cucumbers with balsalmic. Jake got the caesar. If I were to go back I would probably get Jake's salada haha. I tried the raspberry lemonade as well. It didn't have a super bold flavor, but probably just because it was healthy.

We really liked it though! It's about $7 a salad, so not too bad. Plus, they cut it up for you so it's easy to eat :) They had a lot of really healthy salad things, if that's your jam too.

The Move To New York!

Ok, I apologize in advance for the length of this post! I have tried to make it shorter and the following is as short as I could make it! I had plans to make a cool video and take lots of pictures, but it was too crazy to do any of that. So if you have any questions, just ask! I always answer all my comments.

MONDAY:
3:00 a.m. - We left for the airport. We said goodbye to Trixie (sooo hard not having her with me, btw) and headed out with 3 suitcases, 2 carry ons, and 2 backpacks. (We actually got to check both of our carry ons for free!)

8:00 a.m. - We got the Denver airport and ate breakfast.
- We took this picture right before shiz hit the fan.
- We flew United. I haven't ever had a bad experience with a certain airline until this. I had booked our tickets, but when I checked our boarding passes on their app it didn't have a seat assignment for us. Long story short, they somehow had a smaller plane than they had expected, so we BARELY got seat. Like, we were the second to last people to board the plane. They didn't give us seats together, but the couple called after us got seats together? I'm so mad! Like, the most exciting/important plane ride of our lives and we didn't even get to sit together. I also had booked window seats so we could see an aerial view of the city when we were flying in, but surprise surprise we had aisle seats.
- Also, this was a 4 hour flight and neither one of us brought a book or anything to do :(
- I will never fly United again! I don't understand how you can book and pay for a flight that far in advance and still get totally screwed over. Grrrr. Also, I'm made that they knew we were moving and it was exciting for us, and they gave the couple behind us seats together but not us. :(!!!!!!!

3:00 p.m. - We were told we would be able to move into our apartment that day. So, we didn't book a hotel or anything. We just took an Uber ($80 from LGA to Midtown, for those wondering) straight to the management office to sign our lease.
- Long story short: We weren't able to move into our apartment that night because we didn't have a signature we needed for the lease. The brokers had already given us the keys. We had already signed everything. All we needed was one more signature.
- The woman we were working with was SO RUDE!!! She left us in the room for 20 minutes to talk with a friend on the phone about Game of Thrones!!!! I am not even kidding. Even the brokers were like, "WTF?!"
- It made me even madder that we couldn't move in because we had been told we could. The apartment was empty! The brokers told us to just move our stuff in, but I didn't want to get there and have the landlord kick us out in the middle of the night. So we booked a hotel instead. ($219 unplanned dollars ugh.)

5:00 p.m. - We took an Uber from the management office to our hotel, dropped our bags off, and then literally sprinted to the nearest USPS to send the lease before they closed. Once we had the lease sent, we grabbed food at Shake Shack because we hadn't eaten since 8:00 a.m. and then went to look at the apartment. We loved it! I have a different post with just photos of the apartment.

7:00 p.m. - We went back to the hotel.
- I cried myself to sleep that night because:
   - A.) I missed Trixie. I felt so bad for just leaving my dog. Like, who just leaves their dog when they move!?!?!?! Horrible dog owners, that's who. I also felt like I could have moved somewhere where I could still have her, so I was mad at myself for choosing to move to New York where I couldn't have her. Also it was sad because she was on my bed :( and my mom had to go and get her and bring her upstairs. She missed me! It's sad with dogs because they don't know why you're leaving! Like I can't tell Trixie that I would have brought her if I could have. She just thinks that I don't love her anymore and left her :(
   - B.) I felt homeless. We had all our life packed in 5 suitcases and no where to go. I had no idea if our apartment was going to work out or if we were going to have to jump through more hoops. Plus our first experience with New York had been negative and mean and I just felt overwhelmed.
    - C.) Mainly I missed Trixie :(((((( I still miss her so much :((((((

TUESDAY:
10:00 am - We decided there was no way we were going to haul all that luggage to a third location. So we took an Uber to the apartment and dropped it off. We got ready at the apartment and then met someone for our Airbnb for that night.
1:00 pm - I had a job interview in Chelsea, so we went down there for a bit.
- After my interview, I kept trying to call Jake, but he wasn't answering. The first time I called him it rang. The second time it went straight to voicemail. I tried to find him on Find My Friends, but it kept saying "location unavailable". I went to Pushcart Coffee and got the best Nutella hot chocoalte of my life. When I didn't hear back from him within like 10 minutes I was naturally convinced he was dead. It turns out he was in a basement Starbuck's without any service :l haha.

WEDNESDAY:
- I had a second interview but was SO GROSS. We didn't get to wash our faces/brush our teeth/etc the night before because we stayed at that Airbnb. So we rushed home early in the morning, I got ready. We got the lease back while we were there. Then, we headed downtown for my second interview.
- Right when we got off the subway we got a text from our broker saying the management company was ready to meet. Jake jumped back on the subway and met with them while I had my second interview.
- I walked out of the interview and saw Jake waiting for me and heard we got the apartment! Ha!

From there, it has just been gathering essentials and trying to get our apartment in order! Haha! It's definitely been an adventure. I now understand why they say, "If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere." It truly is the most confusing, hectic move that exists, probably. I kept telling Jake, "If we had a car we could just keep all this stuff in it while we try to figure things out!" But, it worked out in the end.

We're finally living in New York!!

A Happy List: 115 - Utah Edition

Monday, April 25, 2016
Today, we are moving to New York City! I tried to make a happy list that was "Utah Edition", but I started rambling on each point. So, I'm going to simplify it and if you have any questions or want any clarification, I trust you'll comment :)

If you like outdoor stuff, there are lots of fun outdoor things to do here.
It's SUPER safe. You can do pretty much whatever and be fine.
Everyone is Mormon, so you don't have to explain yourself.
The cost of living is really inexpensive in most areas.
Neighborhoods are really close/friendly.
Almost all our family lives here.
All the unique food places.
People are friendly.
The weather!
Park City.

It's a weird feeling to finally be moving after wanting to so badly for so many years! Our time in Utah has been good, but we are both definitely ready to move on and start what we have been calling "our real lives" hahaha. I'm making vlogs about our move, so if you aren't already subscribed to me on YouTube, go do so here!

A Happy List: 114

Monday, April 18, 2016
I already posted this on my gramz (@emcakes) but it cracks me up so here we are again.
Getting a new retainer for my bottom teeth. It took soooooooooo long to get them to go back to being straight. But, now they are and I have a nice, new retainer without any springs on it to wear at night!
My sister bought all the episodes of The Walking Dead on Apple T.V.! Now we can get caught up!
Finding out D.C. doesn't have as many natural disasters as I thought. (Kelsey, confirm?)
Making a big decision about grad school. It's not final yet but I'll catch ya up when it is.
When Jake and I don't go to bed right away and Trixie comes to check on us.
Getting all my clothes packed except for what I'm wearing this week.
Getting to the finish line literally 20 seconds before Jake crossed!
Going to 180 Tacos for every farewell lunch/dinner.
Seeing the biggest dog I have ever seen.

- - - - -

My father-in-law: "Eyebrows are getting huge!! Literally!"

Jake: "I got a text I'm so popular."

Jake: "The options are endless at Taco Bell... career options."

Jake: "No one wants to see that ish. No one wants to see pug aaaa."

Hi More Food

Thursday, April 14, 2016
So my grandma was here last week and I basically gained 5 pounds from all the food we ate. So, here's a mini guide of delicious food to get in Utah.

Ok this is Utah's best kept secret. At the Deseret Book in Salt Lake (the one by City Creek) they have like 15 different jars of candy and you can go in there and fill a bag for only $5! My favorite is the chocolate covered gummy bears.

Ok Ruby Snap is a given. They have the best cookies. They also sell this cookie dough at Harmon's, P.S.! My favorite is the Ricki (the 2 on the left) and Jake's favorite is the Mia (the pink baby). Runner up awards go to the Penelope, Virginia, and Maris.

My family looooooves Black Bear Diner for breakfast. Honestly, now that I've had The Original Pancake House I think that's the best breakfast. But, people basically like it because you can get something called "The Grizz" which is SO MUCH FOOD for like $11. Like Jake and I just split it the last time we went. Oh, also their hot chocolate is very good. *Pictured is the Farmer's scramble which I would recommend above The Grizz cause it felt healthier.*

Roll With It is the best haha. This is where we went with friends a little while ago! It does take them about 5 minutes to make your ice cream, but it's because they are literally pouring cream on a cold thing and mixing it themselves. Pictured above is the salted caramel which I wouldn't recommend. They have a lavendar flavor sometimes that is seriously sooooo good!

Not food related but we got pedicures at a place called CK spa in Highland. The girls were the nicest ever and it was so nice inside, but I wouldn't recommend it! The pedicures were only $20, but they had to redo my grandma's toe like 5 times, my sister had nail polish on the skin outside her nails, and my mom's got smeared. I saw all of this happen so I waited like an hour to put my shoes on (after getting home from the nail salon, so it had probably been like an hour and a half) and it smeared!! Maybe it's just been a while since I got a pedicure, but I feel like usually you can put your shoes on after an hour and a half?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Forgot to take a picture, but the Asian Salad at Magleby's is SO GOOD. Also while you're there you have to get their chocolate cake. We went and then immediately went to The Orange Peel afterward cause we're obsessed. I tried the Brazilian this time (LOL) and it was so good. Honestly, I never get sweetner in my smoothies there and it's always still so yummy.

Let's finish this post off with the best picture of Jake. Here he is being a fashion blogger. #nailedit

A Happy List: 113

Tuesday, April 12, 2016
This is the literal couch of my dreams. It's at a store called At Home and is only $500!!! I am so mad though, because they don't ship anywhere. And the closest store to the city is in Virginia like 1,000 miles away. :( Someone buy it so I can live vicariously.
Sleeping in between Trixie and Jake. I call it "sandwiched between baes".
Realizing we only have one more Monday until we move to New York.
Going strong with no soda even while there is Diet Coke in my fridge.
Deep cleaning 2 out of the 4 rooms I need to clean before we move.
All kitchenware from Anthropologie. It's too cute.
When Trixie takes her medicine quickly.
Finishing our kitchen list + carts.
Hires Big H fries + frysauce.
The tofu at P.F. Changs.
Getting carried to bed.

My mom: "I haven't had vegetables yet today. Usually all I eat is vegetables!"

My mom to my grandma: "Mom here's some strange candy you could buy."

Walk With Trixie

Monday, April 11, 2016
Crop top found here.

TRIXIE IS PERFECT!!! She is getting a little too old for long walks now, so I put her in my nieces stroller hahahaha. She loves it so much. I wish there were giants who could push me in a stroller.

Also, that black crop top is 100% the best piece of clothing I own. SO COMFORTABLE. When I am working out I feel like it's motivational because I can see more of my body. I'll be running and look down and be like, KEEP GOING. But if I wear loose clothes then I just assume I look better underneath there than I actually do hahahaha.

Anyway, THERE ARE OFFICIALLY 2 WEEKS UNTIL WE MOVE TO NEW YORK. Like, I have this Monday, and then next Monday, and the Monday after that will be spent traveling all day. I AM SO EXCITED.
