WE GOT AN APARTMENT IN NEW YORK CITY!

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

IT HAPPENED. We found an apartment!!! Without telling you the exact neighborhood, it's on Manhattan island just a 10 minute walk from central park. Which means we can have pets! I AM SO EXCITED.

I am seriously soooo excited. Like I can't stop. In New York City, real estate goes so fast. Like, basically unless you're ready to move in within the week you won't get shown apartments. They just laugh at you.

We were planning on having spaghetti anyway (Congratulate me, I am now making dinners (because I am bored) like a real adult.) but we popped out our Martinelli's and had a little party. Even Trixie got some meatballs. :)!

Stay tuned for NYC adventures comin' at ya soon!

P.S. Literally how gross is the word meatballs? Like meat is gross, and balls is gross, but meatballs?! DX

Getting A Massage, Voting At The Caucus, And The Best Smoothies In The World!

Ugh this picture is blurry!! #whatevs #shakeitoff

Ok! So we got our first couple's massage! (Also our first massage in general haha.) IT WAS SO GOOD. I was a little nervous before we went, but it turned out fine. I think we are going to make it a new Valentine's Day tradition. They gave us a sugar foot scrub and Martinelli's and chocolate!!!

Are you supposed to talk during a couple's massage? Like in the movies they are always talking to each other? Idk. We didn't talk to each other haha. Like, A.) I didn't have anything to say, and B.) I just wanted to relax. Anyway, what's the norm for that?

Oh and also they didn't touch my butt. I thought they would, because my friend who gets massages all the time said that they massage your butt and it feels really good. But they didn't so that was that haha.
OK ALSO. We voted at the Caucus on Tuesday! It was sooo crazy and not very well organized. Thank the heavens we saw one of my friends there and he directed us on where to go. I took these pictures while waiting for Jake to fill out his ballot. Bernie and Ted ended up winning, so yay!

Also, I feel like more people need to educate kids on how the voting process works. Like, soo many people I talked to thought that the caucus didn't matter BUT IT DOES. This is basically how it works (if I understand correctly).

All these different candidates run -> during the caucus, you vote for you want to be president -> how many votes each candidate gets has an effect on how many delegates they get -> whichever candidates have the most delegates get to be the final 2! -> if you get 1,297 delegates then you are automatically one of the final 2.

So basically the caucus's matter because you're having a direct effect on who the final 2 candidates are. SO GO VOTE! Like, I honestly get mad when people don't vote because it has such a big effect on our lives I feel like everyone should be able to have a say. There's a really cool website called www.isidewith.com where you can answer a few questions and see who you should vote for.

Anyway, I have more to say about this but I don't want to write a novel so I'll stop haha.

Lastly, if you live in Utah go to The Orange Peel!! Literally everything they have is good. I loved the smoothie pictured! So far my favorite bubble tea has been: thai coconut, almond, avocado, and no sweeter. SO GOOD. If you haven't been there yet then seriously go! Since me and Jake (well I've stopped, Jake has cut down) drinking soda, it's been soo fun to still be able to go somewhere and get drinks.

Anyway, jeez was this post long enough? #novel. If you made it to the end then congratulations :)

Bye Social Dental Felicia

Tuesday, March 22, 2016
You guys! Friday was my last day of work! Out of all the different places I've worked (8!!) Social Dental was BY FAR my favorite!

I ended up absolutely loving start-up atmosphere. It was so relaxed and just fun! I think the coolest thing about working at a start-up is the sense of ownership you feel with the company. It becomes like your baby haha. And you can have like, a huge impact on how it functions. I hope I was able to leave it better than I found it, even if just by organizing the shipping system haha.

Anyway, I'm so glad that I was able to work here and meet so many amazing people. #FRIENDZ4EVER. Also, look at this cute little surprise party they threw me on my last day!

They came in with a confetti gun (It was so awesome! It startled all of us ahaha. I want like 10 of them.) cake, and a mini me!

My work BFF, Sydney, got me this cake haha! I have been calling everything a "Felicia" lately so I'm glad that got incorporated haha.

My desk! And all the confetti!

Ok so they drew on glasses and lipstick! How good does it look?! #artists haha.

My department (minus a few people). I LOVE ALL OF THEM.

#tastetherainbow. Also Sydney picked out the perfect plates. Like the cake, the plates, it all fit me so perfectly haha. I love when other people know me so well that they can do that.

MY WORK BFF!!!!! She is going to have the mini-me in her office hahaha. I told her she should put cameras in the eyes so I can see her lolz. SYD I WILL MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME VISIT ME!

The final farewell! Ugh! I know I will love being a therapist and I'm happy that I'm on that career path. Social Dental was such a fun place to work though! I don't think I'll ever work anywhere that has that great of energy/culture ever again! Goodbye my little Social Dental. I will miss you!

If you click "Utah Guide" it will show you all the places we have been since we have lived here. I am planning on making a more comprehensive guide when we move, but for now that's what I have!

A Happy List: 110

Monday, March 21, 2016
One of the prints in my coming-soon Etsy shop!

Jake was playing with a rubber band during church. The boy in front of us was getting his back rubbed by his mom. Jake's rubber band flipped off his finger and landed perfectly on the boy's back!
Making lists of all the things I am going to do before we move to New York.
My mom ranting about the Dollar Tree they are building by her house.
Finding the most delicious smelling Kate Spade perfume sample.
Finding 2 dresses at Nordstrom Rack for like $30 total.
Starting "The Returned" and obsessing with it so far.
Making the switch to non-toxic/vegan nail polish.
Movies that are set in New York.

How I Know My Mother Loves Me

SHE MADE ME THESE NOODLES. <3

Also here is a picture of Trixie. I didn't know where to put it, but I felt it was important to put it somewhere because LOOK AT HER SHE IS SO CUTE I CAN'T HANDLE IT.

Sunset pic with #nofilter. I swear the summer after my high school graduation everyone got really into sunsets. Like, REALLY. I swear every night I would see like, 3 different sunset pictures on my social media. I think it was one of those things that like, proved you were introspective. Like, if you could appreciate a good sunset then everyone knew that you were really solid and self aware. #highschoolprobs

N.E.WAYS. That's all I have for today. I am wearing fake eyelashes right now and I can't decide if I did them wrong or if fake eyelashes are just the worst?? Idk. I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow.

It Turns Out I'm Not Funny

Thursday, March 17, 2016
So, the other day I was watching my friend, Beverly's, snapchat. At one point, she was looking at her computer and all the pictures were replaced with pictures of Nicholas Cage! Ha! Her husband set it up on her computer because he is awesome.

Obviously I was obsessed with this and made her find out how her husband did it so I could prank people as well. Tonight, I got home from work and sneakily got on Jake's laptop while he was changing into pajamas. I set it up in lightning speed just as he was walking back out.

I got up and was like, "Oh, it won't let me log in sorry." And then ran upstairs lolz.

OK SO MEANWHILE Jake thinks it's like "Nicholas Cage" day or something because of the pictures he was seeing. I am just like, over here trying to play it cool but internally DYING. Finally, I can't talk it anymore, so I go over to him to get his opinion on some glasses online.

He's just like, casually looking at his email while there are little icons of Nicholas Cage haha. He's like, "Wait, did you do something?" So I'm like, audibly dying at this point and he's just like, totally straight faced?

I uninstalled the extension and went back to the couch and then not even A MINUTE LATER he's laughing at a finance joke in The Big Short?! I'm like, wut.

So, apparently I'm not funny. Although I get a kick out of myself so that counts right.

Feed Me, Guide Me, Eat Beside Me

There are very few things I'll miss about Utah, but eating in the car will be one of them! Like legit I ALWAYS eat in the car if I can haha. The other day I ate french toast by myself in a restaurant and immediately regretted not eating in the car.

Oh, and if you still haven't tried the birthday cake shake from Zaxby's THEN GO GET IT RIGHT NOW.

Oh, and if you're vegetarian and want to know what to get at In 'N Out: a grilled cheese with sauce, tomatoes, and pickles. I am obsessed with it haha.

BYE FELICIAS.

A Happy List: 109

Monday, March 14, 2016
I was at work and called my orthodontist to reschedule my appointment. When she answered the phone I got confused and said, "Hi, this is Emily from Social Dental, I just wanted to reschedule my appointment." And then she was really confused and I had to awkwardly try to undo what I said haha.

Not committing to 2 events and not giving in to the social pressure to commit. #stayedstrong

Getting a free NYX contouring palette at the Nordstrom Rack grand opening.

Getting Trixie's DNA test results back! More on this later!

Getting really fast at giving Trixie her medications.

Ben Sasso liked and commented on my photo.

Using a shimmer highlight omg.

Putting in my two weeks!

Having black hair again.

Dinner For One

Saturday, March 12, 2016
I don't know if I ever talked about this on here, but I am turning my blog back into a diary haha. Here's why I switched it: more people started reading here and getting mad at things I said.

But, now that I'm older I realize everyone has their opinions and it's stupid to alter your life just because a few people get mad at you for yours! So, hello blog diary. I missed you very much. Also, if I say something that offends you, remember I'm just some girl you found online who doesn't know anything about you.

- - - - -

I stopped drinking soda and the only way I have been surviving is because of sparkling cider. It's so freaking good. The other night I made zucchini enchiladas (one of my favorite vegetarian recipes). Jake was gone so I got a little fancy and watched The O.C. while I ate haha. #loner but whatever. I'm proud of my introverted-ness and honestly don't mind being alone some times if Jake has something to go to. My mom is always like, "Jake is having a guys night?! Let's go out!" and I'm like, "Oh, I was planning on watching The O.C. and doing collage art" hahahah.

Also, while we're on that topic let me take the honor to educate you about introverts vs extroverts cause I have encountered 3 different people this week who didn't understand it. Think of a battery. Extroverts are charged by being around people. Introverts are charged by being alone. Now, try writing with your opposite hand. That's what it feels like for introverts to be in extrovert situations all the time, or for extroverts to be in introvert situations all the time.

The end. I just feel like some people think introverts hate anything social, or extroverts can't be alone. Which is stupid. It's just how they recharge. As a raging introvert, I can say that when people don't give me the time to recharge... it's bad hahahaha. So, respect yo friends and family.

#endsoapbox

P.S. I brought Disqus back because I want you guys to know I'm responding to your comments, and I feel like it's easier that way because then you don't have to check back here. If you're not already signed up you should, because if someone responds to your comment it just emails you a notification. It's super nice.

Yo Where My Smoothie At

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Hahahaha you guys. Today at work some coworkers and I ordered smoothies. There was another work order before us, so it took an hour for us to get them. The smoothie guy walks in with the smoothies and these execs go over to him, take the smoothies, and start drinking them!!!! Hahaha. We were like, "... Aren't those our smoothies? We ordered and paid for ourselves?!"

It was seriously so funny. We were like, "Why would you just start eating food without asking?" Lol. It's mainly funny because the same thing happened last time. A coworker and I got to add smoothies to an order that was placed for the execs. When it came the execs who didn't order a smoothie drank ours! Haha. They're very popular, apparently! Gotta snatch 'em up hot!

Anyway, I got The Pear and would definitely recommend! :)

A Not So Happy List: 108

Monday, March 7, 2016
Taken before shiz hit the fan. But strangely a semi-accurate portrayal of my life.
UGH YOU GUYS.  My life is anything BUT happy right now. In bulleted list format, here's what's going on:
- Trixie has a tumor by her liver and the stupid vet didn't give me a timeframe of how long she will live so I am freaking out. Hopefully by the time this is posted I will know. But please don't text/talk to me about it because I'm really sensitive about it right now and will probably start crying and make you feel uncomfortable.
- Jake is still job hunting and very stressed about what our finances will be like in New York. Which means I'm stressed that I'll have to live in the Bronx and get raped/murdered.
- I still don't know what my financial aid package is for NYU because they take their sweet time. If I don't get any scholarships/assistance it willl cost $70,000. So I've been applying like crazy to scholarships but have to wait at least a month to see if I get any of them.
- I'm also trying to find a job in New York, but basically need to be full time in the summer and then go down to part time when school starts.
- I'm still struggling with how to tell people that I'm dying/emotional and don't want to do social things. I always feel like they take it personal and get offended, and then I feel guilty for not going.
- Trying to sell both our cars, Jake's motorcycle, our furniture (luckily we don't have much left), and a bunch of other random crap like clothes, toasters, decorative pillows, etc.

And to put the cherry on top of all this, I was supposed to teach at my church today, but I didn't go because I've been constantly depressed/crying about Trixie's vet visit. I thought it was the other teacher's turn too, so I didn't get a substitute. I told the other teacher I wasn't going to be there, and then during the first hour (there are three hours) she told me that it was my turn to teach. All of the people who could have subbed were already there. My mom was home sick and Jake was teaching. So I started crying because I didn't know what to do and felt like there wasn't anyone to help me get the lesson taught to my kids. Jake told me that they would take care of it and to just calm down. I know it isn't a huge deal because they are only 3-4 and don't listen to the lesson anyway, but it just stressed me out so much and made me feel like a horrible teacher/church member. Like I was just abondoning my kids without even getting anyone to take my place. I still don't know what the other teacher ended up doing with them, but no one texted me so I guess it was fine.

SO THAT'S HOW LIFE IS GOING. I have made so many videos and posts to explain of all this but whatever. It's not worth like, that much detail. Basically, life will be fine like it always is, but I am so far past my limits I just need to be alone with some comfort food and Law & Order. Some days are better than others, and honestly, the past few weeks I was doing so well. Then bam, Trixie's vet hit and it just made everything spin so far out of control. I just need to know what her timeline is to feel better. I hate the unknown stuff SO MUCH.

So, I was debating whether I should even do a happy list because I'm not happy right now about life. Then I remembered that the whole point of these happy lists is to celebrate the small victories amongst all the stupid crap that happens. So, here goes. Happy list #108:

- - - - -

Katherine's boyfriend made us an excel spreadsheet about New York budgeting, so now we know exactly what we can and can't afford. Which helps with apartment hunting and job hunting.
Seeing an old man take a road trip break with his lab in the parking lot of Scheel's.
Jake thought mexi fries were called "mexican fries" and ordered them like that.
Crest 5 minute whitening strips working wonders on my teeth.
Hitting 50 days without soda, and t-50 days to New York.
Our insurance covered all of my cavities.
Peeling dried mud mask off my face.

- - - - -

I'm stopping at 7 because I don't feel like thinking about 3 more. But anyway, yeah. That's what's going on. Thanks to everyone who has been nice/understanding about giving me space. I'm tired of being scared about people overanalyzing/getting mad about what I say on this blog, so I'm turning back into what it used to be: a form of therapy haha.

Dead Cause Fondue

Wednesday, March 2, 2016
YOU GUYS HAVE TO GO TO THE RIDGE IN DRAPER. It was seriously the most delicious, little hidden gem. I got the cheese fondue with soft pretzel bites and I have been craving them every day since. Jake got a burger with fries and loved it. But he was more excited about the cookie/sundae! For good reason too. We finished it off in like, two seconds haha.

This place is super cute. It's up in Suncerest, which I love. (If you've never been there either, you need to go drive around!) We decided we would add this to our Utah Top 10, which is a big deal cause we've both lived here our entire lives and have eaten pretty much everywhere.

SO GO HERE. Also take me with you so I can get that fondue again. #heaven.
